Hello guys i am looking for a little help on repair options i have with this scratch i have on my tv screen. First off its a few yrs old panasonic 20inch tv with a rounded glass front and its a tv/vcr combo. So the issue is the other day i noticed their is about a one inch scratch going down the screen in the lower 3rds right side of the tv that wasnt their a few days ago. I dont know how it happened. So i was wondering if their is any chemicals/pastes/etc.... i can use/get to remove the scratch from the screen.

My tv looks like this:

no idea on this one unfortunately...
I would assume there are some gels and epoxys that you might be able to use, that are somewhat like cd repair kits, but for tv screens...

I would start there.

would u know any names of products i could look into malice. I was googling for help for hrs earlier today but didnt really get any solid help besides a few places meaning toothpaste and rubbing that in the scratch for a few mins. And i cant take it to a repair shope at the moment since i am at school and dont know any repair places in the area/dont have the time to do it. Now i do have spring break in two weeks and going home if i cant fix it before then i might have my parents take it to repair shops back home.

Have you tried the toothpaste options?

Yea but it didnt really work. The stratch isnt that deep you can barely feel it with your finger. And as i said its about 1 inch long in length on the lower right side of the screen. When you are looking at it looks more like a smuge mark from cleaning then a scratch but it is a scratch. So as you said in first post what product names could i look into that might be helpful for me to check?

I dont know of any...I was making suggestions of some sort...

Besides that panasonic is really old. If he has cash he could sell that and get one of those HDTV LCD.:up:

Well i dont have money to go by an hdtv and i kinda like the older tvs then hdtv ones. Its a good tv and i love using the vcr combo in it since i tape a bunch of shows still on vhs to watch whenever i want. I guess i will just wait to i go home on the 20th for my spring break and i will call some tv repair shops in the area back home and see what they say. If there is anything items i could use or to see how much it is to replace the glass screen.

Sadly, a scratched screen is not fixable. It's the same concept as a scratched CD. People sell all these products but it is logically impossible. Most old TV screens have a substance similar to glass. Nothing short of melting and resetting the screen would get it back to suitable shape.

This analogy may be a stretch but imagine carving your name in wood. The only way to remove the carving would be to shave the excess wood. That would be the only feesable way to "fix" the screen beyond replacing it. Now if you go to replace it, it'll likely cost you most than a new television.

These days you can get a new 20" HDTV for anywhere from $100-$300 depending where you shop. If you're going for the old tube televisions, you could probably find them for less. If the shops can replace the glass, find out how much the cost is and tell us. Depending what they say, we can link you to TV's that may be cheaper and a better value.

Yea i am just going to call this weekend when i am home and see what prices things could be.
