I just want people opinion on your preferred choice when viewing on your big screen TV.

I say this because I am seriously cheesed off that SPACE 1999 season 1 is being released on blu ray in 4:3 meaning letterbox, meaning ugly black bars down the sides of the picture. UGH!!

I prefer 16:9 over 4:3... but if it means cutting off part of the original screen , then I rather not

I want the 'cinematic' experience over all else so I don't really care about losing the top and bottom of the screen. what are you going to lose? some of the ceiling and some of the floor.

Space 1999 looks fantastic on youtube in 16:9 but I have to watch it with horrible black bars down the sides at home.

Well... some older tv shows are really squarish, so cropping it into 16:9 is gonna take away lots of screen...

I have not seen Star Trek TOS on Blu-ray... but from what I heard, it has two black pillars HARD-CODED onto the sides. If you are one of those that manually zoom into the picture, you are gonna have a hard time zooming into that

there is no getting around it on my tv. with 4:3 dvd I can zoom in the picture for it fills the screen but with HD the zoom option disappears.
with the blu ray had both versions (16:9/4:3) because there definately is a 16:9 because ITV (english tv station) showed Space 1999 a while back in HD and in widescreen.

i feel sorry for you guys. your tv channels havent adapted 16:9 as a standard yet?

I prefer 16:9 over 4:3 on anything when theres a choice

He's talking about an old series from over 10 years ago. I would say 99% of primetime shows on the air today are widescreen. The ones that arent tend to be some reality shows and even alot of those are now widescreen
