How difficult is it to make masks like these? I want to have a Two-Face costume for SDCC next year, and I'd love to have something that looks as good as what I see here.
It's not really very difficult just a bit time consuming. Here.s a quick tutorial. I don't have pictures but if i make any more prosthetics in the next week I will take pictures of the process.
You will need:
modeling clay or play doh
Liquid latex
Toilet paper
small paint brush
and of course paint to paint the finished prosthetic.
optional but makes things ALOT easier. A foam head. you can find them online for like $2 or at a costume shop
First using either the foam head, (or another person willing to let you put clay on their face)... start with a base layer of modeling clay
using a plastic spatula, your hands, whatever mold the clay into some cool burn and scar shapes.
once you have a good design start by applying a thin base coat of liquid latex over the clay.
Next put some toilet paper over the liquid latex. Make sure you pack the toilet paper into all the crevices and don't lose any of your details.
let dry then apply another coat and repeat this process a few times.
Make sure you keep it a bit thinner at the edges of the prosthetic to help blending with the skin.
You can use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process.
After you are satisfied with the prosthetic. Paint it up to look burned and gory.
now you have a prosthetic.
I prefer to do mine in multiple pieces. Takes longer when putting them on because you have to do alot of blending but the results are fantastic
