Does he have a problem with women in general? As in, not believing they are equal to men? Some cats struggle with that and take every opportunity to "prove" their superior intellect over their female peers. I see it in the office almost every day.

Entirely possible that he's got the hots for you and is expressing it in a passive-aggressive way because he knows you're not interested as Rambo suggested. Caliph raises a good point also, though, that it could be because he wants to exert and flaunt his "superior intellect" over a woman, if it's something he does with all women. Probably the best option is to just ignore him when he tries to start silly arguments like this and don't give him the attention he's looking for. It'll make him want you all the more since guys like that enjoy the "hunt" with a woman who's "playing hard to get".
