Why are people so stupid?

Why are so many people so completely and shockingly stupid?

I mean, why do people readily believe crap that has been debunked?

Take for example, the myth that Obama is a Muslim.

Look at those comments. I mean, if these were a one off it would be fine. If it were a on off, I'd think they're just joking. But you see these comments in SO many places, on so many different youtube vids or boards or blogs or whatever.

Obama was never sworn in on the Koran. That is not true. It has been debunked, MONTHS and months ago! Why do people readily believe nonsense they read in emails or whatever? Why do people take something at face value and decide that it is the truth?

The anti-christ?? What the hell?

On a different video, a guy was putting out there the myth that Obama was not born in the US. I responded, "c'mon, thats been debunked, that isn't true", and I sent him a link to an article from factheck.org which has pics of the factcheck.org guys holding Obama's birth certificate, and showing all the different official stuff on the certificate. The guy responded to me "well, I still don't believe it 'cause I haven't seen it for myself"



C'mon people!!

Speaking of stupid I overheard this conversation from two girls standing in front of me in line at the university book store the other day;

girl 1: so what psych class you taking
girl 2: 116
girl 1: arg, I took that class twice
girl 2: why? to upgrade?
girl 1: no, I took the 116 first semester then meant to take the 115 class, but took the 116 again instead
girl 2: why didn't you just drop it when you realized it was the same class?
girl 1: it was a different teacher, so i thought it was the other class. i didn't realize until i checked my degree progress and it said i took the same class twice.
girl 2: *says nothing and just looks with a blank stare*

It took every fibre of my being not to laugh uncontrollably.

People believe what they want to believe. I think it's pretty moronic that someone would actually believe he was born outside the county. Non-citizens are even allowed to run for/be president.

As for people thinking he's muslim its just because he has a middle eastern sounding name.

Having worked with the public for almost ten years, yes people are stupid.

I dunno, although I feel that most people lack basic reasoning skills. Their sense of perception is very concrete and if something challenges that or suggest ambiguity, it's shocking, so the reaction meets how it's perceived.

Ex: A man went hang-gliding during one of the Floridian hurricanes because he'd never tried it before.

When Obama was over here in England all the news stations were doing interviews with Americans and they came across this one woman who truly is the most ignorant person ever. The interviewer asked her what she thought of Obama and her response was something along these lines "Oh you mean the black guy?
