Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Well the movie already has a director so...

He's kinda old to play Drake. A studio would probably won't a better known actor to play him. We as gamers know him because he's Nathan Drake and voices a character in every video game these days but even just a casual game fan won't know him.
He already plays Drake. He does all the mocap, not just the voice over.

I wouldn't call that ironic, since that's pretty much what I was getting at. We already have a perfect, ready made, cheap to hire Nathan Drake, recognised by millions of fans. Why do live action? Just get Naughty Dog to make it, with a high profile director on board.
I would say people prefer a live-action film film for the same reasons people want to see comic book movies that aren't animated. Live-action makes everything feel much more realistic, no matter how good the graphics and CGI models of the game look.

But I personally wouldn't be opposed to the idea, mainly since like you said, Drake is already recognized by millions of people, not to mention, Nolan North, despite the fact that he's practically in every game now, is still known as the guy from Uncharted. Hiring someone else to play him in live-action runs the risk of upsetting the majority if the character doesn't live up a more recent and popular performance.

I wouldn't mind if Elena died because I like Chloe better.

I wouldn't mind either.
I'm not cheering for that, but wouldn't mind.

Elena>>>>>>>>Chloe. Fact. :woot:

Here is a vid of the Desert Village level in MP. Check out the [BLACKOUT]sand storm[/BLACKOUT] that hits at around the 1:30 mark. Awesome.

Wow. Yeah...I mean...wow.

I mean, I guess it'd be more powerful if Elena was the one that died. But, only because she's got to be the more liked character, I would hope.

Cannot wait to pick up the Collector's Edition in November.

I'd rather they not kill off very strong female main character and love interest purely for the shock value. Uncharted is great partly because they are a fresh air from a lot of the rampant darkness and sexism so dominant in many games.

I don't get the extreme reaction.
I thought Chloe was much more fun than Elena, but perhaps I have more interest on her because I played Uncharted 2 before 1.

Besides, it is for the fact that Elena has a bigger attachment to Nathan that I don't mind her dying.

I think it's just that nobody likes her as Drake's love interest. I think it all stems from that. My guess is because she came off as promiscuous, and there were times when you couldn't tell if Drake could even trust her.

Plus, she seems to call out for the darkness in Drake. Elena seems to call out the better, good guy in Drake.

And I think Elena is a really fun character, too. Her wit is sharp, and I think she's funnier than Chloe. But, they're both great characters and probably the best written and fully realized female characters in any videogames today.

Yeah, like I said before. Chloe is the girl you meet and sleep with, but Elena is the girl you meet and marry.

But I agree, I personally don't hate Chloe in any way, but I prefer Elena simply because we saw their adventure together where you want to hook up after the first one, but even though we know Chloe had also previously been involved with Drake, we never saw that and have no connection to their adventures aside fro their most recent one. Plus, Chloe obviously wasn't the only girl Drake has been with where he ended up disappearing shortly after. But with Elena, we see a different side of Drake where you know he wouldn't do that to her because he cares for her more than he had for anyone else before. It adds more to his character and gives him more depth.

I just like Chloe better. Sorry. Elena -- kill her so Drake can get with Chloe.

During Uncharted 2, I just constantly got the feeling that Chloe was the woman he was fighting for that he couldn't let go.

Agree. Chloe >>>> Elena

I saw absolutely NO sexual chemistry between Drake and Elena. They came across more like brother and sister than lovers. She's better as a friend type and thats how it should have remained. I dont buy any "love" between them bc they simply dont see to connect like that. I didnt get a strong sense of romance in either of the games

^Agreed, Elena felt just way too white bread, picket fence compared to Chloe's saucy personality. Maybe that was the point but the parts without Chloe in UC2 lost a bit of the sharp banter and chemistry that she shared with Drake in favor of something that just felt sort of... safe and conventional.

just saw the whole Uncharted 3 Airplane sequence!!! I am gonna pre order this NOW!!!!!

There didn't NEED to be sexual chemistry between Drake and Elena in 2, that's what elevated her above Chloe. Chloe was nothing BUT sexual chemistry, but she and Drake clearly had no significant connection beyond that. Nate and Elena had clearly gotten very close in between the two games and then things fell broke down. Why the hell would they need to be flirty in UC 2? You don't need to flirt with someone you've already gotten close to, especially not if you'd broken up. There relationship had just been developed, from a character point of view, where they didn't HAVE to do that. That's why she's better than Chloe.

My favourite example of this would be when Drake tries to tell Elena she can't come with him and she just says "Hey, Nate... Just shut up. Let's go" It shows she knew him so well, whereas Chloe seemed to have a problem with just about everything Drake did unless it involved being flirty and sexual.

Its not even in comparison to Chloe. Drake and Elena on their own dont have much chemistry at all, even before Chloe came in the picture. I saw no romantic potential with Drake and Elena in UC1

Sexual chemistry doesnt necesarily mean being flirty. Its something thats naturally there between two people. Drake and Elene just didnt have it. They came across more like siblings

Or like best friends, which is essentially what the mark of a true, "want to marry you" relationship, rather than "Damn girl, lemme see that fine ass as you climb up that ladder".

We know they're engaged and it totally makes sense. Think of it this way....

Nathan Drake is basically your classic Han Solo type character, cocky adventurer. And he ends up with Princess Leia. Now, who is more like Leia, Chloe or Elena?

I never saw Star Wars so your analogy flies over my head...lol. He doesnt need to be with Chloe romantically. I dont think I want that but they are great as partners and their banter is awesome, fun and interesting. Elena though? They are just a boring couple. She's better off utilized as a friend, someone to help him with his adventures and research

But that's the dynamic that I think works, exciting, cocky adventurer, addicted to adrenaline finds the more 'girl-next-door' vibe of Elena. Why does she need to be 'exciting' to justify her relationship to him? She's a grounding force for Nate, that he doesn't otherwise have, as well as something for him to lose, raising the stakes. It makes her seem more innocent and the threat higher, because she isn't a part of the dirty game in the same way that Sully and Chloe are, but at the same time, she isn't just a classic damsel in distress, she's headstrong and has guts.

Personally, I think she's one of the best representation of a strong, female character in a video game ever, and you're dissatisfaction with her status as a character just enforces that. So many guys basically just want their strong, female characters to basically be a bad ass guy with boobs. I would wager that more girl gamers like Elena quite a bit, because they find her relatable and more realistic.

Edit: Also, it doesn't matter if you haven't seen Star Wars, look at any male hero who follows that same character type. Indiana Jone's love interest in the first Indy film, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. It's not a new formula, to give the brash, bold hero a more grounded female counterpart. The difference for Elena is that they've made her capable and intelligent in a totally non-token way.

Here's that plane Demo, for people who haven't seen it.

I have NO problem with Elena as a character. She's a great supporting character and worked quite well as utilized in UC1. I just see NO romantic chemistry between her and Drake. Its as simple as that. You keep comparing her to Chloe, but Chloe isnt her problem nor why I dont see much spark between Drake and Elena.

I'm not comparing her to Chloe in that way, rather outlining why Elena's character is important to Drake's development, because she reaches an aspect of his character that the other people in his life (i.e. Sully and Chloe) can't.

Also, I definitely disagree about the zero chemistry. They have plenty of chemistry, it's just a different nature to his other friends. With Chloe it's flirty, with Sully it's like guy friends, paying each other out but with Elena, I always thought it felt like affectionate banter and bickering. You say like brother and sister, I say it always felt like husband and wife to me.

When Elena is saying things like "Elena Fisher, last years model" etc, I'd say there was plenty of banter between them, i'm pretty sure at one point Drake even jokingly says "Nag, nag, nag" after she's told him to be careful.

Also, how about in UC 1, when Elena breaks Drake out of jail? That' got to be one of the classic UC scenes ever, it still makes me laugh when Drake snatches the map out of Eddies hand. How is there not chemistry between Drake and Elena there?
