Sony Moves on Underworld Prequel

Sony's Screen Gems believes there is enough blood left to squeeze in the "Underworld" franchise for an Underworld 3. The studio is poised to make an announcement soon. Word broke over the weekend at a special webmasters panel taking place during the San Diego Comic-Con. Chapter numero three, it's rumored, is a prequel, furthermore, French FX artist Patrick Tatopoulos will be at the helm. This will mark his directing debut.

For a few years now he has been seeking an ideal film while juggling effects duties on the previous "Underworld" films as well as upcoming projects such as 10,000 B.C., The Ruins and I Am Legend. If you recall he had once been attached to Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train; his involvement in Phoenix Pictures Last Voyage of the Demeter remains unknown.

You know I would like to see a prequel would be so cool to see all the elders out and fighting and stuff, but I think finish off Selene and Micheals story is more important or well more of the right thing to do.

But reading that it sounds as if Len isn't in with it either, I mean there his films and characters really and there is no mention of him either so without Len will it be as good or work?

But I want a sequel to Evolution Sony not a prequel!

Len Wiseman will still be a producer.

A prequel still hasnt been confirmed, so right now it's up in the air until they announce the film this week.

Oh good, didn't see his name there and I was like woh his not involed with it! lol.

But at least he will be then, so either way they are going to announce it this weekend so it is a go ahead?

Oh but Victor, Amelia and Marcus have to be all in it will be so cool to see them all work as a unit and see well what Amelia's like as we only see like 1min of her lol.
 
Yes, Len Wiseman will be a producer. The new director, Patrick Tatopoulos will do a pretty good job on the film.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the prequel will revolve around. Hopefully Lucian and Amelia! I wonder if the prequel will "side" more with the lycans?

True since the others are more about the Vampires and their story and lives it might show the Lycans as slaves aswell, and Lucian is back, he was great in the first one and Victor! I thought Bill was great as that role as well.

My guess is the prequel would/should be about the Lycans as slaves, and it would show Lucian and Sonja getting married and revolting. You could then have some pretty badass fights.

I'm looking forward to seeing Patrick Tatopoulos take on the film. He should do a great job.
 
Without Beckinsale fighting vamps in the leather this won't be a hit.

I'm slightly intrigued though.

Yeah same here see more of that, so a wedding and a killing lol.

And the Lycans making a riot and breaking free I am guessing and the start of Deathdealers as well.
 
i hope the director is as good as len =(

prequel idea is cool... you get to see more of the dead characters that werent shown much

Yeah I liked both and Khan as well the weapons master in the first film, he was a good addtion to the cast.



xwolverine2 - I too hope they are as good as Len.
 
If the prequel is during the dark ages (or whenever the first scene in the 2nd film takes place) then i'm all for it. :)

ComingSoon.net caught up with Feast of Love producer Tom Rosenberg on Tuesday and asked him whether Screen Gems is continuing the "Underworld" franchise, which has raked in about $207 million worldwide on fairly low budgets.

Rosenberg told us that you can expect an announcement shortly about another installment in the franchise. He said that Len Wiseman, who directed his wife Kate Beckinsale in the first two films, will be producing the new movie.

Asked if this could possibly reboot the franchise, Rosenberg added, "It could. It's a prequel. Some people think it could be rebooted. I don't know. I'm not there yet."

He would not say whether Beckinsale would appear in the prequel.
 
Well at least we heard some news about it, and when is this 'announcement' going to happen lol they said that last time lol.
 
There is a book thats a prequel to underworld,forgot the name of it. Its a decent book to read,and its mainly about lucious and his affair with victors daughter. Theres still alot of action in the book so shouldnt be dull at all. Lycans were slaves,but yet the book did a good job of balancing lycans/vamps out...
 
I don't think a prequel is the way to go. The flashbacks in Underworld and the first part of Evolution was all the prequel we need. I think Underworld 3 should be a continuation/conclusion to Selene's arc. What has she turned into is something I would like to see more than a prequel.
