There is a book thats a prequel to underworld,forgot the name of it. Its a decent book to read,and its mainly about lucious and his affair with victors daughter. Theres still alot of action in the book so shouldnt be dull at all. Lycans were slaves,but yet the book did a good job of balancing lycans/vamps out...

Yeah I read it, was ok.

I don't think a prequel is the way to go. The flashbacks in Underworld and the first part of Evolution was all the prequel we need. I think Underworld 3 should be a continuation/conclusion to Selene's arc. What has she turned into is something I would like to see more than a prequel.

See I agree I would rather them do a 3rd finish off Selene's and Micheals story then do a prequel really, I don't think the prequel will do well at the box office as a 3rd installment of the films, so do a 3rd then think about a prequel

And I read on this interview that she said she would like to do one, as she would like to see how it ends and also she gets to spend time with Len as well, so I why don't they go for it and make it

Well, Selene could appear in a prequel. The director has said this "It will be in the time period before, but it will overlap into the creation of her as well. We're in the process of seeing how far we go with that."

Hopefully we'll see her in action.

yep. Selene was more kick a$$ in the 1st movie...There's just something about UNDERWORLD.

i think the 2nd movie needed a little better pacing. i loved the first one and as many times as i've seen evolution, i just wish it was a little longer, like at least 10 more minutes. maybe the first was so long mainly because it had to introduce us into this whole world. as much as i'm looking forward to this prequel, i can't help but hope that they make a part 4 that caps these movies. bring selene and michael back. maybe have them have a hybrid-hybrid baby at the end, just as long as it retains its faithful dark tone

Why do people make films like this, the 1st Underworld was bearable, the 2nd abissmal.

And don't get me wrong Kate Beckinsale is all kinds of pleasing to the eye but she's a wooden actress.

Underworld Prequel to Show Rise of the Lycans

Just two days after we posted shooting dates for a third "Underworld" movie, Variety has published more details on the Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems prequel, to be titled Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans.

FX artist Patrick Tatopoulos, who developed the creatures for the first two films, is directing with Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra aboard to star. Underworld creator Len Wiseman will produce alongside Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Skip Williamson.

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

Danny McBride wrote the screenplay.

"For the first time we will experience the 'Underworld' universe through the eyes of the Lycans," Wiseman said. "Patrick has always played such an essential part in helping to create 'Underworld' from the start. ... So I feel it is both exciting and fitting that (he) now takes the helm."

Sony's Screen Gems will distribute the film in North America, with Sony and Lakeshore distributing worldwide.

Yeah they are going to carry of with the films, but........I hope we get a little bit of Selene in it, to me underworld without Selene is like Pirates without Jack Sparrow. I'll still look forward to seeing it, but not as much as a proper 3rd film like a sequel.

But at least Sheen is back, he was good in the first film

Underworld Threequel Update

Lakeshore Entertainment's big boss man Tom Rosenberg spoke to Collider about a sundry of titles they have in the works (including Crank 2). The update he had to share that piqued our interest concerned Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans, shooting shortly under the eye of FX artist-***-director Patrick Tatopoulos.

"It's a theatrical release definitely," Rosenberg tells the site. "I feel great about that. I think it's the strongest story that we've put together of the three. I think it's really terrific. I think it leads to a 4th. When we did the 1st 'Underworld,' we imagined three - the 1st one, a sequel and then a prequel. The 3rd is a prequel, so the 4th would carry on where Kate and Scott Speedman left off after 2, so I think this is going to be terrific really this one." As for the prequel's storyline: "This is how they meet and Michael Sheen becomes the leader of the werewolves. This is told from the werewolf's perspective, not the vampire's. It's their story and their battle with Victor."

After a prequel, we're curious if audiences will even care to return to Selene and Michael's story - more importantly, will Beckinsale and Speedman?

If Wiseman came back to direct, I think Beckinsale and Speedman would have no problem coming back for a fourth. It'll depend on what else Wiseman does in the meanwhile. Live Free or Die Hard was a big hit for him, and it can only mean more, high-profile jobs.

I'm weary about Tatopoulos directing, because there's a bad precedent for sequels directed by guys who did effects for the original films (The Fly II, Starship Troopers II, etc.). He's great at production design and creature effects, but can he direct?

Kate Beckinsale's character was a vampire, how much emotion do you expect her to show in that film? She may not be the worlds greatest actress, but she's definitely not a wooden one. Her performance in Click proves she can act in a serious fashion.

Both Underworlds were really good though. I just thik it would've been nice to see her become more of a badass after drinking the Elder vampires blood.

Oh yeah thats why I want a 4th one so then we might see more evolution in her character, which is why I want frakking 4th!!!!! I just like these film loads...............
