I was at a New Years event and with a few drinks, I really started to think. They released balloons outside at the drop of midnight. Where do these helium filled monsters go after they deflate and fall onto the ground like litter bombs? That is right, these party spectacles are nice to look at when they are going up, but when the come down...who is going to clean up the mess. Thousands of balloons maybe even millions are released at events every year, only to land in a farmer's field and pollute the Earth. Is releasing a festive balloon into the air the same as throwing one on the ground? Rubber and plastic take hundreds of years to degrade, could this be causing global warming
