I know, I'm probably the last person in the world to buy one of these, but I've never needed one before :O I have an external hard drive, and that was the most portable thing I've ever needed!

Anyways, I'm going to be taking a 4 week Adobe Photoshop class soon in order to add that particular certification to my resume, and the course requires a USB drive to store files. Any advice on what size to get?

I never needed more than 1 gig for all the photoshop work I did at school for 2 years, and they're not all that expensive anymore.

Yeah, they're very inexpensive. I've seen some for only $10.

I bought an 8 gig at Best Buy a few months ago for 20 bucks, they have decent selection.

If you're working primarily with jpegs and .psd documents, you won't need much storage.

I'm sure it'll be useful for other things eventually, as well, just didn't know if there was a "standard" good size to purchase.

I got mine at Walmart for around $5, not sure exactly how much memory it has though.

Interesting, I've been needing to buy one too. I'm probably gonna end up getting a 4gig one just for the heck of it. But be careful when working with those things, very easy to leave them behind in the library (computer), etc. Why I need a new one anyways. :O As long as you remember to 'eject' the drive anytime you're finished with it, I don't see why you would forget to grab it before leaving.

I suggest encrypting the data on it, so if you ever leave it somewhere...the data is unreadable to the person that picks it up.

Yes, you wouldn't want anyone to see you photo shopping Jamal to look like Omar Epps.

Got an 8gig for 10 bucks on meritline.com Them Tigerdirect and newegg always have some killer deals.

Wow, meritline really does have good deals. I really may as well get a larger storage one as a lot of the 8 gb ones are on sale there for less than even some of the 2gb ones are at other sites.

As long as you get 1gig plus you really can't go wrong. That 8gig one seems like a deal. You can always buy a "geek squad" one from Best Buy on the cheap, as well.
I don't suppose you're willing to wait, but I've seen these things go home for less than a dollar on Black Friday.:)

It's for a class in April, so I definitely couldn't wait til Black Friday :oldrazz: I ordered this one earlier today, seemed like the most bang for the buck

I've a 16 gig PNY. My co-worker a 32 gig custom build.

If you're just carry basic text documents you can get away with 1 gig or less. If you want to be able to carry a few pictures and songs, I'd recommend at least 4 gigs (little smaller than a DVD.)

If they expect you to carry full portfolios designed from Photoshop, an 8 gig or higher may be prudent.

The one I ordered from Amazon just arrived...with all-Japanese instructions!!! :csad:

Not only that, but when I plug it in...all in Japanese. No instructions on how to return from the vendor, or even a receipt aside from my online purchase confirmation. Looks like I got ripped off.

The one I ordered from was ABX ProTech. I found that type of page though...it says they haven't specified their return policy. Guess I'll e-mail them and see what they say.

Edit: Which I did. Hopefully I can return it and get a refund. Either way, I'm going to Best Buy today and I'll just buy one there :oldrazz:

Well if you used a credit card and you don't hear anything from the seller, you can always contact your credit card company and get it charged back.

My Computer, Right Click the Drive in question, Format. That should've taken care of the language issue.

Oh, darn :csad: Wish I'd known sooner. That makes me feel like an ass, but it's just not something I'd know to do. I'd already right-clicked on it when it popped up on my computer and didn't see any options that weren't in a foreign language, so I figured that was that. Grr.

AndThePickles get a 16 gig from newegg.com they are cheap there

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134721

that is the one I have and I use it for portable apps and holding a lot of what I have despite most of my info is on a 250 gig hard drive

I'd already bought one. Unfortunately, I now have two, haha. I have an 8 gig from Best Buy, and that 4 GB Sandisk. I did try the formatting option as suggested, but the only option that gave me was to delete all the software. It came with quite a lot of extras (all in Japanese) that I wouldn't want to just delete; I'd wanted to use them. However, the company DID surprisingly e-mail me back, finally, and if they can't help me figure out how to change the language options, they'll refund the purchase.
