Saw this movie yesterday and enjoyed it very much. I thought Cruise did pretty good in the movie.

Have not seen this yet, probably will. But I always hated movies where the main characters were..German..french..ect. and they talked with an accent, even though they were talking in thier own language but it was "english" so we could understand.

What even TICKS me off more.. is.. they are speaking english so we understand them but then they throw words in that are not english.

Ie: Memoirs of a Geisha- Used Accented Japanese so we would "understand" them, but how many times did they use Konnichiwa (Good afternoon), moshi moshi (Hello on a phone), Arigato (thank you). Either use full english or not, not use accents and throw in other words. lol

Either go full english or do it in the different language. Otherwise its just silly.

Start the movie speaking "native" language.. then switch after a bit to english. to show they are speaking "insert language" but we can understand them.

Better yet, just make subtitles.

As I recall, when they speak German in the movie there's also subtitles so you can understand it.

any idea of box office estimates?

I'm surprised about Marley and Me. I want to see it but I didn't think it would be #1 for the day. I thought Benjamin Button would be first.

Very well done movie. Cruise isn't the supposed distraction the bloggers on the net make it seem to be....people just have a problem with him, and try to lay it at the feet of the film.

The movie starts slowly, but ascends to soaring heights, it's a gripping suspense movie. My theater was packed, and my group went from yawning the first half hour (it does start off slow), to be on the edge of their seats as the final half hour ran.

Very interesting movie, I'd recommend it if you aren't the type to walk in there already annoyed with Tom Cruise and the lack of German accents. The movie is far more interesting than those minor tidbits.

I'm probably watching it tomorrow! Glad to hear that people here are liking it.

I'm going to have to check this out on Sunday night when I get back into Chicago. I've been waiting for this one for a while!

Very well done. A good comeback movie for Singer after Superman Returns.

Tom Cruise did OK. I mean he was Tom Cruise, but he wasn't as bad as some of the early critics and reviews were making him out to be.

The Spirit on the otherhand was terrible and almost unwatchable.

Why is so difficult for you to understand that opinions are just that, not facts, no matter how much you think a movie sucks. Some people like Valkyrie, others hate it, same with The Spirit. You don't agree with the critics regarding Cruise.... nor with some positive reviews for The Spirit, so? Who cares, to each its own.

Marley & Me, Button and Valkyrie all performed higher yesterday than originally projected.

Unless this movie has legs of steel it is looking to be a financial failure due to Singer's mishandling of the budget.
I know that American people are used to do it, but if you keep repeating a lie it doesn't become the truth.

Is that really much of an accomplishment when 3 other movies released the same day become number 1, 2, and 3? The Christmas record is not hard to break.

Yes when the other three haven't had an ounce of the bad press Valkyrie has and it beat even the most generous estimates.

Unless this movie has legs of steel it is looking to be a financial failure due to Singer's mishandling of the budget.

Look, I know you claim to not care either way about Singer, but that's just a blatant lie. The budget went up due to a production fudge up that could've happened on any single movie, including whoever the hell you love to watch.

I'm hoping it fails so Singer won't be given a big budget movie again.

I hope you fail.

According to?

Thank you for calling me out on this. I just checked and it seems that it's not that expensive after all. The number 100 Million has been floating around unconfirmed since news broke of the infamous incident where they had to totally reshoot the ending.

New York Times states:

Financially speaking, the stakes are considerable. With a stated production budget of $75 million — competitors insist it is closer to $90 million — “Valkyrie” is the most expensive film made for distribution by MGM under Mr. Sloan’s watch.

Of course competitors could mean people like certain posters here or IMDb or some of the reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes who like to spread misinformation to further their own Tom Cruise/Bryan Singer hating agenda (Roger Ebert suspects this is the case). So we'll have to wait and see if the Sutdio quotes a specific number really.

Problem is, Singer also mishandled SR's budget, so is not the first time. :o

What's your point? Speilberg mishandled every budget he worked with until he made Raiders of the Lost Ark. :o

David Fincher has that kind of history as well, even with his newest release The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Every director loves to spend, it's the producer's job to keep things reasonable.

With all due respect please do a little bit of reasearch before you make these kinds of statements.
