Comedy "Veep" starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus on HBO

Well that I can't disagree with. It would be highly entertaining.

Won big tonight.

Bummed that Anna didn't win. Of the cast, she was the one I was most rooting for because she KILLED IT this season. Oh well, still happy the show got a lot of love this year, as it remains the best comedy currently on TV, imo.

Who was it that won over Anna? Allison Janney? Eh. I can live with it. Normally I'd be raging about someone from a Chuck Lorre show winning, but I actually quite like her, so I'm not too broken up.

I like Allison Janney a lot too, but I feel that was really an "Emmy Voters Still Love You" win. Which is what I'd be saying about Julia too, if she wasn't still on a show that gives her Emmy-worthy material on a regular basis.

:lmao: Outside of Kent and Ben, Dan is easily the most under-appreciated character on the show. Like Kent and Ben, his humor is so much more subtle than the other characters, but just as funny.

Did we already know John Slattery was going to be in the new season? Because Julia Louis Dreyfus has been retweeting on-set pics of him with the cast.

Season five trailer is up. So damn happy.

Andrea Savage cast in recurring role as Senator Montez

Senator Montez was mentioned a couple times last season as Senator O'Brien's running mate. I notice Tom James is in the trailer advising Selena on the economy and bank bailouts. I remember Tom James mentioned he wanted to be Treasury Secretary. Perhaps the House votes Selena as President and the Senate votes Montez as Veep, giving Selena a VP in the opposing party and she makes James her Secretary of the Treasury?

If anyone needs any proof of how well JLD has aged, watch the scene with her and John Slattery in the new trailer.... and then remember that she's a year and a half older than he is.

“You’re as welcome here as a swastika-shaped **** in a synagogue.” #Veep is back, people. It is so back.
:lmao:

That smug Dick Van Dyke looking motherf***er Tom James. :lmao:

Oh boy. Tom James is gonna make her life miserable after that. And I will enjoy every second of it. :D

I just rewatched the premiere and caught something I didn't notice the first time around. Catherine is in the background of a lot of scenes recording her documentary. For example, when Ben basically bribes Bill with a pardon to turn himself in quietly, Catherine is off to the side recording. No emphasis is put on it, she is just there. I gotta think something is going to come of this later on. I'm not sure if she was in the Oval Office when Selena was making fun of mudslide victims and refusing to give Idaho emergency funding because they didn't vote for her, but I'm betting she was. Mostly because this episode had a lot of throwaway moments (Catherine's documentary, Selena's racism toward the Chinese, her Idaho comments, Bill being bribed, etc) that ultimately went nowhere. These are the type of moments that would've backfired on Selena in other episodes. Instead, I think the writers are playing the long game. I bet at some point this season, Catherine's documentary is going to drop and it is going to cause a **** storm for Selena.

Another stray observation. The season finale is titled "Inauguration." Which means this entire season will take place over the course of two months (compare that to last season which took place over the course of nearly one full year). Beyond that, episode 9 is titled "Kissing Your Sister." Gary said in the premiere that his bowling coach told him that "a tie is like kissing your sister." That can't be coincidence. I think Nevada is still going to go O'Brien and the whole "who won?" plot will be stretched out throughout the season. So therefore the question is, who is being inaugurated is the finale?

I am guessing Tom James. At first I didn't think that the writers would go that route (Tom James becomes POTUS and Selena is relegated back to Vice-Presidency). I thought that little nuance was designed simply to further establish the conflict between James and Selena that underlined the entire season 4 finale. Now, I'm not sure. The "previously on Veep" scene before the season 5 premiere focused almost entirely on the possibility of James being President. In addition, the opening credits have added fake news clippings about Tom James. I think the season is building up to him usurping Selena's throne.

If all of that does come to pass, I really hope Selena does not go back to being VP. I think a 6th and final season focusing on Selena's post-presidency would be much better. That being said, I still think there is a lot to be done with her actually winning the presidency and holding that role without an election looming. So I do hope the writers go that route. But I think the table is being set for a James Presidency.

Kent trying to decipher Sue's age was hilarious. I also love how he's the only one not having Selina's pronunciation of Nevada.

Oh my God. The second-- the second!-- I saw that Dan/Amy's sister scene last week, I immediately thought to myself "She's not saying what you think she's saying, Dan."

:lmao:

I laughed way too hard at Selina being put out by having to rush to her mother's bedside.
