Me and a friend are going to Manhattan for a long weekend soon. Primarily to go to the NYCC.

We have both already visited twice before and as such, don't feel the need to do the usual touristy stuff this time.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go and see while we are there that are bit "off the beaten track" so to speak.

Muchly thanks tendered in advance of your replies... :yay:

Little Frankies Pizza in the village. They prepare food in a nice wood burning oven. Order the spagetti with garlic and olive oil and the wood roasted chicken (well done) with capers and a side of arugala. An alternative: the polpetine (mini meat ball) pizza, or the salami picante pizza, both best ordered on the crispy side.

NYONYA on GRAND st. Maylaysian food. Amazing taste and not expensive. I suggest the special pork with yam and rice, the beef chow fun, the maylaysian buddist vegatarian dish and the lobak appetizer. To finish order the chendol as a dessert. It's shaved ice, coconut water, coffee and sweet red beans. It's good.

If you and your buddy are over 21, may I suggest PEYTON'S PLAYPEN gentleman's club (aka a strip club) in Sunset Park brooklyn on 39th and 2nd ave? It's sleazy for sure, but not too sleazy, and you won't spend as much as you would in a place in Manhattan.

I'll be visiting NYC too, and those restaurants sound great! I will be skipping that last one though, no offense. :funny:

None taken. He DID ask for off the beaten path though, in my defense. :)

Sushi Choshi in Gramercy Park is the best sushi I have ever had, get the salmon salad and gyoza.

And if you have never had the pleasure of Shake Shack, do so.

I hear the Statue of Liberty is pretty cool. Maybe you've heard of it? :p
Actually I've never been there. Really wanna go though. That pizza place sounds great

Walk around the East Village (Union Sq subway stop). It's a cool place to just explore. I also like the Financial District, around Fulton St and Nassau St. It's more like an old city with windy, narrow streets. Stone Street has restaurants on both sides with patio furniture in the middle, a nice area to get lunch or drinks if you're old enough. It's a ghost town after 8pm though.

You can go to Susan Surandon's ping pong club, "SPiN", on 23rd between Broadway and Park Ave South. The only time I went there she was actually there and we danced with her.

If you like bars, try Stone Street downtown in the financial district.

There's also Fat Cat for pool, ping pong, jazz, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. Nothing is too outlandish to throw out there.

Basically it`s a lads long weekend in Manhattan, so even a "Gentleman's Club" is not necessarily out of the question! :)

Be interested in any of the interesting but "less touristy" sites that can be visited in Manhattan itself.

Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me if there is a true IMAX cinema in Manhattan?

Thanks.

Watch out for biker gangs apparently.
You could go to the Nintendo/Pokemon store,
Never been to NYC, but I really want to try to some day.

You should really check out the 9/11 memorial(if it's open and you haven't been there before) when you go. It's something everyone should see. Got a chance to see it in May before I went on my cruise.

:wow:

That's amazing.

The 9/11 Memorial looks awesome, thanks. Will check that out for sure.

I've already been to Manhattan twice before, in 2003 and 2010. So much to see...

Other than the Con, anything particular you looking to check out in NYC?

How exciting! I would love to check out NYC one day. I want to visit a jazz bar :)

The sea, air and space museum. Go on the aircraft carrier deck, then jump off it if you are being chased either by feds or goons trying to retrieve the declaration of independence.

100% going to see the Enterprise Space Shuttle and add to the photographs I took of it 30 years ago when it landed at Stansted Airport in the UK on its way back from Germany where I think it was at an air show.

I also really want to do the Walking Dead obstacle course on Pier 86 on the Saturday night.

Rockefeller plaza is also on my list and the 9/11 Memorial (now), The New York Public Library and the Museum of Natural History (But I don't if the last two are going to be available with this government shutdown going on)

Possibly taking an NY movie sights tour. Perhaps catch Gravity at an IMAX cinema and I would love to go to a Jazz club.

How did you know I had stolen it in the first place?

That's one of my biggest pet peeves when I hear people say, I visited so and so place and ate at the same restaurant that is located where I live.
