Vitamin Water apologizes for offensive bottlecap message

1) Coca-Cola exercised extremely poor judgment in letting that slip through product review/monitoring.

2) People are way to thin skinned. Yes it's offensive but is it really something to get yourself worked up about? This sort of thing is getting out of hand. It was an ignorant mistake on Coke's part not a personal attack.

How does that even happen? Some disgruntled employee?

Most likely. I hate how a company gets slammed in the media for the stupidity of a single employee but we let companies like BP and big banks destroy lives without remorse on a daily basis.

You just gave a bunch of kids one massive loophole.

Well I was ******ed for work this morning, I'm definitely ******ed for most things, I blame the traffic.

I can't help being ******ed sometimes. Colored people time is a bad mother shut your mouth.

And yet more proof french is the devil tongue.

I don't think anyone gave a pass to what BP and the banks did or thinks that their punishment was sufficient but we're not the lobbyists in charge of the government.

This is stupid of Coca-Cola. Their quality review is apparently nonexistent and it isn't thin skinned to be insulted by a clearly insulting message. I would have not been as insulted by it but then I don't have a family member who it would apply to either.

Did no one tell you when you were growing up that ignorance is not an excuse... unless you mean to apply it in a doublestandard fashion and say Coke wasn't at fault while you ranted about BP and big bank companies.

I do agree with you that ignorance is not an excuse. However, this issue is being blown well out of hand. Did Coca-Cola behave irresponsibly? Absolutely. Was any real damage done? No.

I was always taught growing up to ignore what others say. It's not like this is a case of harassment or intentionally targeting someone for insult. If I found the cap, I'd probably just shrug and laugh it off as a stupid employee prank. Coke doesn't know me, why should I let it ruin my day/week/month/life? You brush the stupidity off and move on. Being thick-skinned is not about insensitivity. It's about not getting worked up about inconsequential things.

Real damage wasn't done but real damage (as in physical) is not always the only consequence of ignorance.

Coca-Cola got some bad publicity from this but I'm not seeing anyone filing a lawsuit or demanding reperations either so the counter is no worse than the initial damage they did.

Hopefully the ******** who wrote the message was fired. The word exists to attack people with intellectual disabilities (and those who care for them) and is as hurtful as a racial slur.

For now - yes, a little bad publicity is warranted. If this moves itno fines or litigation than that is a different story. Personally, I wouldn't have bothered writing a letter at all because I have much more important things to do with my time.

Do you have a daughter who is considered mentally ******ed? I don't but I think my reaction would have been much the same as this man had it been my situation. And I probably would have been more vocal in my public shaming of their lax quality control department.

Not a daughter, but a cousin who is, due to an accident.

It was a word puzzle where a random word is printed inside a bottlecap, and you collect them or something.

This being Canada, there is bilingual packaging, so the contest is run in both French and English.

In this case, the English word "you" was randomly printed in the bottlecap. Then the French word "******" (meaning "late") was randomly printed beneath it.
