Animation Voltron: Legendary Defender

[BLACKOUT]Man, I am not a fan of that cliffhanger ending for season 1[/BLACKOUT]

My problem is that I thought the ending was a bit abrupt. Felt like there was one more episode to go.

Cliffhanger? Yes, but it was a bit of a sudden hard cliffhanger to go out on. Like one of those tune in next week cliffhangers not a season ending cliffhanger.

Who was the turncoat with the Galra? That wasn't Lotor right? I don't think he was introduced yet. If he did it just to help Allura escape, I can kind of see that, but I didn't get what was going on there.

Zarkon was a bit one-note here. But apparently he can breathe in the vacuum of space.

That's probably my issue with how Netflix handles Dreamworks shows. They split up season orders into two "seasons", so it feels weird.

This show overall was a lot of fun. It had plenty of action and adventure, and I enjoyed the backstories of some of the characters.

I was kind of spoiled about Pidge's gender reveal, so it was just a matter of when. The turncoat in the final episode helping the Paladins was a genuine surprise, though. What's his deal?

Anyone else spot the Robotech Easter egg in the first episode?
Miriya, and Rick in the background) and later they walk past Roy Fokker

I feel like this could be in the same universe as The Thundercats.

I don't remember from the original series but...
was Pidge secretly a girl in that one, too?

The pilot was dooope. Exactly the kind of series I'm feeling like right now so I'm hyped for the rest of the season.

Loved it, but I definitely agree about the abrupt ending. I really liked that Zarkon is willing to get his hands dirty and not just sit on his throne.

I liked how the dialog when the castle ship took off was what was spoken on the old show when they formed Voltron :awesome:

Loved it. Humour and action was on point. Has it been renewed for S2 yet?

I have to say with the exception of Coran most of the voice cast is on point they are all very good. I had no idea the actress who plays Alura is not British her character sure has a Brit accent.

Well, that was all too easy to binge. And it was awesome. Love that they sort of held back on the Robeasts. I think every time one shows up, it is going to be an amazing fight. The second one was great. Also can't wait to see some of the other weapons.

And just so we're clear, in Episode 9 [BLACKOUT]Shiro totally murdered Sendak, right?[/BLACKOUT]

I love how the qualities listed to be the pilot of the Black Lion are right now Kieth's biggest flaws, you just know somewhere down the road he will eventually take over, once Shiro bites the dust

I am looking forward to the inevitable flashback episode. Really curious about the first paladins now.

ok so i just finished the new series (didnt realize they were dumping it all in one go so that was a pleasant surprise). LOVE IT! :ilv: as someone who was like 6 yrs old when the originals were airing, and then seeing the work they did here, you guys have no idea how happy i am. :jd:

i was partly anticipating kiddie type storytelling and logic-- but surprisingly it wasnt, held up real well even for adult logic. at least on the first passing. i was watching this for enjoyment after all, not to find faults.

the ending was kinda abrupt, but i can totally see the angle they are making where they want to create a rabid demand for the 2nd season. and you know they might actually get it :D. i kinda felt that the real "ending" to S1 was actually in ep 8 (bcz that was really good) and the rest of the eps that followed after that was the buildup for the 2nd season.

also love the fact that they updated the characters to be more well rounded and more in keeping with the times without feeling like they're pandering to certain demographics. yeah even:

the gender switch with Pidge. to be perfectly honest, in the original cartoons it got me wondering several times if Pidge could be a girl-- just not girly-girl (or in this case princess-y). so im quite happy with them just going with it officially and giving her a related backstory to support the switchover.

if theres one thing i kinda missed from the original cartoons is the voiceover opening from Optimus Prime. maybe in the later seasons when they got enough stories they could bring that back?

I only wished they used more of the classic theme

I always LOVED the end theme how can you not love a good use of trumpet in a cartoon end theme

You keep saying this without providing a source, so please do so.

It's just generally how animation works. Especially hand drawn like this. Usually a second season is already in the works before the official announcement.

I really hope the second season is coming soon, though. That was a nasty cliffhanger.

so, I finally started watching this, up to Ep 5 I think.

so far, I'm really enjoying it. You can definitely tell the Airbender/Korra influence on the designs and characterizations.

I am a bit disappointed that they changed Alura's design so drastically, even though her new look is pretty ( I guess I'm just partial to blondes.....lol ). I did think the inclusion of the mice was nice touch, because I remember her being friends with mice from the original series.

Oh, and I was quite surprised about Pidge [BLACKOUT]being a girl.[/BLACKOUT]

I've been watching Netflix Dreamworks shows before Voltron was even a blip in the system and I've been noticing this pattern happening. So, no need to source paying attention and using some common sense.

I finished this faster than I thought I would because it's stellar animation. That was barely an ending, though. The characters were mostly great, though maybe too stereotypical at first. The side characters they meet on their journeys are really interesting too. This show was so fun, can't wait for more.

thats true. maybe in the second season? find a way to recreate the original theme for this series, much like how they redid the original TV Star Trek theme for the new movies.
