Wall Street II: Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone are Back

You never heard of Wall Street? I know it was never a movie for the family or whatever, but it's hard to image never hearing about its' famous line: "Greed is good".

Anyway, it's time for you to watch the first one then, and stop with your comic book movies. jk.

its now in my que lol

You know, when I first heard that they were making this, I thought it was all "WTF?" but after watching the trailer and re-watching the first film, and after working (somewhat) in the financial markets, I can see how continuing the story of Gekko could really go places in the modern era. It's kind of funny in a way... we see all of these remakes and reimagining and sequels long-after-the-last one... some good and some bad but there's no reason why Hollywood's recent penchant for this should be relegated to superhero/action/sci-fi films. The original Wall Street was a fantastic film, powered by what might be Michael Douglas' best performance. I can't wait to see more Gordon Gekko.

International Trailer

Loooks great. But what is with this recent practice of making great international trailers while the U.S. trailer is a 1 minute teaser that reveals practically nothing? First it happened with Robin Hood, and now this.

Regardless though, I can't wait. Looks like this will be a good role for Carey Mulligan.

International trailers have a bit more leeway as opposed to the MPAA, who suck out loud

That was a good trailer actually. For a unecessary sequel, it looks good. At least Stone looks like he put actual thought into it.

I remember even hearing rumblings of a sequel in the late nineties and I read that he started working on it sometime in 2004 or 05?? and put it down, and then once the crash hit, he picked it up and started work on it again

Great trailer, I am really surprised how cool this looks, it's a real chance for Shia to showcase himself opposite some heavyweights. Love the part where they give Gekko his "mobile" phone. :woot:

I agree about Shia....my thinking is he wouldn't be sharing the screen with Michael Douglas and Josh Brolin if Stone didn't think he could handle it

a lot of people felt the same way when Jamie Foxx landed on "Any Given Sunday" and he did ok

The Beard can make it happen :hehe:

the list of people that Spielberg CAN'T initmidate is probably a very short one, I'd put Stone on that list

I love the (paraphrase) "Someone once said greed, for want of a better word, is good....now it seems that it's legal." Looks good, but we all know trailers can deceive, all the same it's encouraging.

Early Buzz: Wall Street 2 is “a Strong Return to Form for Both Stone and Douglas”

“…it’s a strong return to form for both Stone and Douglas. It also proves Shia can play with the big boys. A surprisingly satirical movie. It’s the first time I’ve heard a Stone movie described as ‘fun.’”… “It’s an entertaining movie with Shia a better match for Douglas than Sheen, who was a stiff. It’s a sardonic, slightly satirical film with Josh Brolin and particularly Frank Langella scoring well.” … “Stone handles the show without either his heavy left hand or his neutered right one that made W not what we’d hoped it. Douglas is the big-ticket item, of course, and revisiting this character is clearly a joy for him…”

Got to say i'm really looking forward to this. Just saw the trailer for the first time, good stuff.

What’s the point of having Carey Mulligan as Gekko’s daughter. From the trailer it looks like she really hates her dad and doesn‘t want anything to do with him. All she wants is to have a happy relationship with her boyfriend Labeouf. So basically it’s another missed opportunity to bring meatier roles for women in Hollywood, because they are stuck playing the stereotypical love interest.

I think the sequel would’ve been far more interesting to have a female protagonist trying to succeed in Wall Street with Gekko as her mentor. Therefore throughout the film the audience can see how woman can be treated differently climbing the corporate ladder as opposed to men. Unfortunately the creative team are mostly men, so it would be too damn difficult for them to identify with women.

I bet you were waiting years to say that. :funny:

finally saw the first wallstreet... i enjoyed it, even though i didnt understand a word of all the business babble that was going on..

the full trailer looks great, like there's alot more going on this time, and its beautifully shot.

If we did have a female protagonist, the trailer would have had a montage to the tune of "Hey sista, soul sista."

If they ain't showing some boob or making me a sandwich, love interest is where they shall remain. :o

Everything about the new trailer screamed mediocre. I have absolutely no desire to see this.

I see where you're coming from here, but I think we should give the movie a shot before we condemn it for falling into typical Hollywood stereotypes. Mulligan's role may turn out to be just another throwaway "I hate my dad" kind of stories, but maybe not. There's only so much you can gauge from one preview.

Also, it's true that having a female protege in this one would be an interesting spin... however, for some reason, in the majority of movies where an older man mentors a young, pretty girl, the director feels the need to throw sexual tension in there. And personally, I'm sick of seeing creepy old dudes hook up with young babes.
