Just curious, The Avengers will be the first Marvel Film released under Walt Disney Pictures, will that affect it at all?

The same way it will affect Pixar films, which is none at all.

We'll have to wait and see.

As for the Pixar example, well there was Cars 2

I hope not, but actually once I think of it, I don't think Disney usually interfere that much.

Maybe we'll see Tony Stark build a Mickey Mouse armor. Anything is possible.

It will afect it by having more money to give marvel

Yes, Disney allows for these big budget attempts under the Marvel banner. That's it.

It's not like WB which treats DC like it's stepchild. Until Marvel blows it, they're going to have autonomy.

Pretty much what DrCosmic said.

Disney bought Marvel because Marvel were doing something right. They wanted a piece of that pie. Don't fix what ain't broke.

If Marvel have a series of financial and critical flops, then mayhaps Disney might start getting more involved.

I would hope Disney stays out out of the creative control process of Marvel films. Would hate to see a watered down, family friendly version of the Avengers. Imagine if Disney had creative control of The Godfather or Pulp Fiction?
How about a Disney remake of "Scareface" -- "Say hello to my little friend - Mickey"

Avengers isn't Scarface, The Godfather, or Pulp Fiction. Captain America was honestly pretty family-friendly. Seriously, the movie could have easily been rated PG, with the exception of those one scene where a Hydra soldier went through a propeller.

When did "family-friendly" become this terrible thing?

Avengers will be BETTER than Scarface, The Godfather, or Pulp Fiction...:cwink:

Seriously, Cap pushed PG-13 quite far. The brutality was not only welcome but needed. It grounded the film and made everything play out in a more real world tone with real consequences. The body count in Cap is surprisingly high. People were getting brutally vaporized left and right. The Red Skull kills the guardian and blood splatters on his Hydra pin. Bucky snipers a guy. Cap throws agents to their deaths. Dr. Erskine is brutally murdered. A kid is used as a shield/hostage. Even Peggy toasts a flame thrower. Gun play and head bashing everywhere. That's far away from PG and it was so welcome.

Disney will have no effect other then to market the films far better than Paramount did this summer. Paramount phoned it in because they knew they were on the outs.

You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

This is the first WWII film I've seen where I only saw three people get shot, none of them good guys. The vaporization was kid-friendly, like a videogame, not brutal at all. Speaking of which, Erksine got one bullet to the chest. That's not 'brutal.' No main characters got vaporized. In fact, the only meaningful death in the film, Bucky's was never seen, never confirmed. Even the main bad guy didn't really die, did he?

Real world consequences would have eschewed the sci-fi blasters and had some howling commandos bleeding out in Cap's arms like Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. That's real world consequences of going to war. Not losing a bunch of red shirts in a splash of CGI.

Kid friendly.

Wow, I just mentioned those three movies as anecdotal examples, but are you telling me a movie you haven't even seen yet is going to be better than three of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time (at least in the top 50)?

I mean, I think the Avengers is going to be good, but let's keep it real

As for the Disney "family-friendly" reference - you disagreers are thinking black or white, when I'm talking more in the grey area. I don't want a "Saw" Avengers, niether do I want a "Winnie the Poo" Avengers.
I'm just saying, I would hate Disney telling the screenwriters to cut out a scene where, let's say, Hawkeye shoots an arrow through some villain's shooting hand, because it's too gruesome.

Based on Disney's recent live action track record, there's no real indication that they'd do that. Hell, those Pirates movies all have someone gettin' stabbed or shot the hell up! To say nothing of the drunkeness and rampant sexual innuendo. And that's Captain Jack alone!

I thought Cap was pretty violent. A lot of people got killed. Probably the highest body count in a superhero movie from what I remember. Highest in any of the Marvel Studios movies anyway.

I guess this :cwink: means nothing to you.

Kid friendly.

I seriously hope you're not raising kids.

I heard Eva Langora is looking over a script for Avengers - Maybe she'll do the wasp

:pal::pal::pal::pal: Wow, that is undoubtedly the funniest thing I have ever heard!!!!

That's not really saying much.

Not to mention, the third Pirates movie opened with a child getting lynched.

Also, for a PG-13 movie Captain America was pretty violent. I was amazed that the propeller bit made it into the movie.

Bodies don't count if there's no body to count. They did the sci fi blasters (and lack of Nazis, and few fight scenes) because it was less realistic and more family friendly.

I seriously hope you're not raising kids.

Whenever I have kids, I can assure they won't think of Captain America as 'real world consequences,' that's for sure. ;)

Compared to Thor, yes. Compared to Harry Potter? Notsomuch. The propeller scene did surprise me, as did the throwing people out of an airplane. I guess the ratings team doesn't care if you can't see the death (for more than a frame).

The Punisher 2004 film has to hold the record but Cap's body count is tremendously high.

I just saw Cap again today (yeah, again) and was paying more attention to the kills because of this thread. The vaporization is pretty horrifying when you look at it especially in 3D. Marvel got away with one with that effect. Also, the whole spy killing the doctor scene is very violent and gritty. The way they pipe in the sound and gun fire REALLY loud makes it more visceral and brutal. Erskine is shot twice through his body and you see the bullet holes blow through from behind. Two MP's are gunned down in jarring fashion and even the granny guard gets it as the spy runs out. More gun play and people getting shot outside.

Not going to go over everything again but Marvel did the perfect job giving us grit and violence without the gore. It packs a punch but keeps the rating PG-13. I think it's better cinema that way. More old school Hitchcock and more intense.

Right, Marvel. I'm not a fan of gratuitous violence, but if the scene calls for, a screenwriter should be able to use it without fear of what "Mickey Mouse" might think.
