Considering we know Sony has contractd a taiwanese plant to produce a 'lower spec' PS3 and low cost, and that Kaz has commented that 'price drops don't make sense without the software to back it up', chances are I bet we're going to see the 399 PS3 around the same time we see Metal gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII (well I don't know if FFXIII will have a simultaneous release, so MGS4 and GTAIV).

Anyone expecting the 80 gig to hold at 599 is pretty out there though.

It's my guess that the $399 PS3 will be similar to the 20GB PS3, minus the emotion engine and with the addition of 20GB of storage. The stupid sky news article saying it would have no emulation software or USB ports is pure crap, because USB ports cost next to nothing (even PS2 has them, duh), and also installing the emulation software on the system literally costs them nothing. To take a further pee on the notion of no USB ports, I would also like to point out that half the accessories Sony is going to be hocking, specifically the PS Eye, use USB. Furthermore, even if you charged the PS3 controllers with an AC adapter, you need USB to sync them with the PS3.

Once again, it has only been out a year. Every console has trouble getting off the ground. PS3 is in it for the long run.

It's got console selling games coming out for the holiday season, which will only increase the already wide gap between PS3 and 360 sales, making it easier for them to get exclusive titles from 3rd party developers, even get companies like Konami and Square to port their big time PS3 games to 360 since they'll have a wider audience.

Notice I said this time next year. Right now sales are fine, but leveling out. Sony has great titles on the way. Give it time it's only been a year.

The way I see it, the Xbox 360 did not really become worthwhile until it's second year, so I don't see why people expect PS3 to instantly have just as good a library as a system that was out a year earlier right out the gate.

Actually, the fact that it was 200 bucks cheaper than the PS3 right out of the gate alone made it a more worthwhile purchase since it's launch.

It's managed to do as well as Xbox 360 did in it's first year and without as many hits, and with two systems to compete with (Xbox 360 had virtually no competition in it's first year). The real question is, why isn't PS3 being destroyed by Xbox 360 if Xbox 360 has a superior software library right now? The answer is in the red rings.

Theres so many conflicting arguments over the 360 its funny. One person says that in its first year the 360 didn't have any games just like the PS3, but then in another separate debate, all of a sudden the 360 had a lot more hit games than the PS3 did in its first year.
