DCU Source said:
Superman has left Earth in the hands of Nightwing, Flamebird, Mon-El and the Guardian.

The tensions between Earth and New Krypton are slowly rising. The winds of war are stirring.

As our very own Dan DiDio has teased numerous times, 2010 is going to be a huge year for Superman. But just what is going on has not been revealed.

Until now. Welcome to the WAR OF THE SUPERMEN.

This lovely piece of J.G. Jones artwork is the cover to WAR OF THE SUPERMEN #0, which will hit stands 5/1/10, as the DCU FREE COMIC BOOK DAY title, and will kick off an event that is sure to change Superman’s status quo.

What more can we say? Not a lot — we can tell you writer James Robinson and artist Eddy Barrows will be taking point on the issue — but we did manage to rope SUPERMAN Group Editor Matt Idelson for a quick tease about what’s to come. Take it away, Matt:

“WAR OF THE SUPERMEN is the culmination of literally years of stories in the Super-books, all building to a destructive conflict which can have no victors. This Free Comic Book Day #0 issue is going to show the readers that no cows are sacred, and that they don’t want to miss this event.”

I figured we'll need this eventually. So here it is.

Right by Superman's right knee. It's his new costume.

holy crap that cover is effing awful!

and while i'll read this, because i read everything superman, trying to sell this on "there is no victors" does not inspire excitement.

Yeah, one of the worst covers I've seen in a while. Way too many :awesome: faces.

Not really interested on this. Hope it won't be a big scale event or anything. Sure Batman is confirmed but bleh... I just don't have the big interest for this.

I'm excited for this. I've been liking the current direction of Superman.

But god that cover is awful.

Looks like they're all crying for Justice.

who is the Blond kid with the red gloves and red sun glasses on Superman left side ?

probably some guilder. Also I'm surprised that powergirl hasn't been involved in any of this.

I haven't been the biggest fan of the New Krypton storyline, but I'm actually rather excited to give this a go. I'm hoping this ends that storyline in a way that doesn't mess up Mr. Kent.

You know, I'd think Clark would specifically keep her away from New Krypton at all costs. You know once those scientists hippy extremists found out there were other kryptons they would try and invade the multiverse.

Why is Superman yelling at me?

No interest in this whatsoever, and I'm glad, too. After Blackest Night, my bank account could use the break.

Horrible cover has completely set me off buying any of this until I read all of New Krypton. I may just trade wait everything that has to do with this event.

Eh. I'm mildly interested. Probably wait for a collection.

And, if it weren't for the look on Supes face, I'd be okay with that cover, but....

Marc Guggenheim Steps in as Writer on Action Comics

If you’ve been paying attention to this blog at all over the last week, you’ve probably figured out that 2010 is gonna be a big year for the Man of Steel. THE WAR OF THE SUPERMEN will kick off on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY and that’s only the opening silo in an epic battle that will change Superman’s status quo.
Part of the sea change hitting the SUPERMAN titles begins next summer, as ACTION COMICS welcomes writer Marc Guggenheim as the new, regular writer. Guggenheim, as most of you know, has a slew of television and film credits, not to mention work on comics, including FLASH. But what’s his take on Superman going to be like? Well, don’t ask us. Ask Marc:
“One of my earliest memories was reading — not even reading, just looking at the pictures, actually, as I was too young to read –
Action Comics. It’s an enormous thrill and a humbling thing to write a comic you literally grew up reading. When D.C. called, I understood how President Obama must have felt when the Nobel Committee called him. Now I just have to work hard not to screw it up.”
Sounds ominous – but when things are heading toward a WAR OF THE SUPERMEN, it’s not going to be rainbows and candy, is it?
For some more teases and clues on Guggenheim’s run, head on over to MTV’s SPLASH PAGE blog. And stay tuned to The Source. Believe me when I say there are more amazing announcements hitting in the next few days.

Hmm... he could be okay, I guess.

Finally, will we get to see Bats (any Bats) beat up a kryptonian (any kyptonian) in War of the Supermen? Batman beating up Superman has almost become a staple.
We'd be remiss if we didn't have Bats (any Bats) beating up a Kryptonian, though we'll make sure it's a worthwhile Kryptonian. I mean, who wants to see Batman beating up the head janitor of New Krypton?

:barf:

I am so GD sick of the Miller inspired Batman beating up Superman scenes. **** that crap.

Then they wonder why people look at Superman in a bad way. Maybe it's because they've been pushing the idea that Batman is cooler and more badass than him for oh, 20+ years now.

*****es.
