Mystery/Thriller Warner Bros. Eyes Ben Affleck for "The Accountant"

Saw it opening weekend and think that it's a good movie. Ben Affleck is great in the film. Sure the film had some wonky story bits but overall the story is interesting and the film has heart. It's a bit of a slow burn movie but it's a good film.

Rating: 8/10

Would have been cool if certain critics would have reviewed the movie and not BvS . ****ing hacks that need to be fired.

So wait

Batman and the Punisher are brothers?

There was something so surreal about watching a movie where Batman is being pursued by Amanda Waller and Commisioner Gordon and fighting the Punisher.

I enjoyed it overall. I think part of its criticism stems from now the film seems to flip genres. At times it's a straight thriller, at others a solid action film, than a character study, than a comic book style movie, and so on.

I actually liked that about the movie, but I can see why that could be frustrating for others.

No...

Daredevil and the Punisher are brothers

Loved this movie. The subplot was oddly disconnected. But, found it to be a fast paced character drama thriller with great performances. 8.5/10

In hindsight, I thinks he disjointed narrative especially in regards to that subplot, was integral to the film's attempt to portray Wolff as a darker character than he actually was:

The entire exposition scene revealing that Wolff was Raymond's informant and was selling so many of his clients out and then only pocketing a small amount of money makes the character more clearly heroic than audiences would probably expect. In a way, the film gives the audience enough room that our previous prejudices from action movies combines with Wolff's autism to make him seem more like the cold blooded anti-Hero that the trailers lead us to perceive him as. But when you look at the character after the reveal, he's a Robin Hood style character who targets bad people and has a strong altruistic nature.

And I personally found that one of the best things about the film. I was misreading the character for a huge amount of time, kind of to my shame. I fully expected him to be portrayed as a classic 21st century self-interested anti-hero, as the kind of morally ambiguous character who would only reluctantly feel the need to protect his fellow accountant. Instead, the film pointed out how I was focusing too much on the communication cues that I'm used to and was ignoring how much Wolff's actions were slowly stacking up to make him arguably more heroic than Jason Bourne or any modern action heroes.

I mean, I liked him because of the multiple cool and benevolent things he does throughout the story, like helping the old folks with their taxes, being friendly and enthusiastic with his fellow accountant, and his otherwise benign nature. But when you realize the guy is annihilating criminal organizations after they give him access to their books, that he probably would have helped the girl out regardless of her friendliness to him, and that he gives most of his money back to people who need it and maintained a childhood friendship into adulthood and works with her to do his job, and that his victims were targeted because they tortured his friedm to death...

I mean, he's still an anti-hero, but arguably one of more sane standards than, say, the Punisher, since his usual MO is about just nonviolently turning criminals over to the law, and he only goes on the offense when necessary.

To me I guess the problem was why JK Simmons would so harshly demand Cynthia Addai-Robinson's character to so relentlessly find Wolff, then find his home only to not do anything. I mean, other officers were there at the scene. That's a crime scene that has to be logged and filed does it not? Not to mention, he purposefully blackmailed her with sealed records. Is that not illegal? I get that he in a weird way was trying to groom her character to replace him as the new government contact for Wolff, but that seemed to be an awkward way of doing it.

13.6 million in 2nd weekend. The drop is just 44.8%.

It's doing similar business to that of Argo so far, I hope it can keep up in the long run.

Batfleck FTW. :D

I really didn't enjoy that sub-plot.

He's pretty much booked till 2020. I don't think he'll have time.

Yeah. Movie did pretty good bank despite film twitter's attempts.

I like the movie for what it is, but it really shouldn't get a sequel. Not everything has to get a sequel. Sometimes just quit while you are ahead. Take the win and move on.

I feel like they could make adjustments (tighter script, etc) and create a sequel thats even better. True not everything has to get a sequel but I would like to see these characters again.

Not sure if i posted this already but, i watched this movie a couple months ago and i quite enjoyed it, cool action (love the sound of the guns in this) and some great chemistry between Kendrick and Affleck, then, those ending twists happened and im sorry but i just couldnt believe that, i mean come on, how convenient, anyway, im sure it worked for some people but i just didnt buy it, there was also the side story with Simmons and the other girl (blanking on her name right now) but i felt that wasnt really necessary, Simmons was great tho so i didnt mind that much, still pretty enjoyable action flick. 7/10

I completely agree with you.

They'd need a powerful conflict to drive the story; this film was more of a character study, and as such, it wrapped up most of its queries and suppositions.

this probably my most favorite film of 2016. I like Gavin O Conner, even though I found the writing stronger in the Warrior, i loved this film.

Count me in the camp who finally saw this and loved it. A stretch of a premise, but one that withstands suspension of disbelief thanks to the writing, direction, and very powerful acting from Ben. Anywhere that one of those three elements falters a bit, the others step up to take the slack. The first thing my wife and I said when the credits rolled was that we needed a sequel. Not because the story wasn't complete, but it was intoxicating being in that world. I really hope this finds more of an audience in the discount theaters and on home video.

8/10

I thought this was pretty good, certainly 3 quarters of it. It was an interesting take on the hitman movie with a very unique character at the center, one of Affleck's best performances IMO. The action was lean and well shot, esepcially the sequence where Christian rescued Dana.

I also thought the investigation side of the movie was well done, Cynthia Addai-Robinson is making a name for herself and JK Simmons never fails to deliver. It also stuck to the rules of [BLACKOUT]never trusting John Lithgow.[/BLACKOUT] :D

I thought it slipped in the last quarter though with the silly twist and Dana just being cut out.

Saw the twist when the mom was leaving. For the rest of the movie I sat there hoping I was right.
