I think this may be his best film yet, it looks amazing, I definitely think he was the right person for this film.

Yes. Clearly the action we've seen proves this is right up his alley.

I think he was definately an appropiate choice, but I'll wait until I see the film to decide whether or not he was the best choice. Still, there are few directors in Hollywood who could've pulled this off and make the finished product look like it will be one of the biggest films of the year.

I do remember though that back in the early days of the project, Robert Zemeckis had reportedy expressed interest in it. I think it would've been interesting to see his take on Transformers.

"michael bay for Harry potter..."

that's why he's right for this

Here's blast from the past circa July 2004:

Don Murphy said:
Zemeckis is in no way involved- Harry Knowles hasn't seen the truth (or his feet) in a very long time.

We are staying focused on the original mythology.

We are working to get permissions for REAL vehicles so that Bumblebee turns into a VW for example.

Steven is COMPLETELY behind staying true to the mythology- no supersoakers.

Hasbro has exerted a ton of pressure so that the film happens QUICKLY.

Your voice is being heard.

Lots of changes since then.

But I was REALLY hoping for Zemeckis to sign on...but we wouldn't have gotten NEARLY as much in your face action as Bay has delivered. More focus on story and character development maybe, but waaay less action.

Actually, I was thinking of a story from 2003 when it was first announced that Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto had acquired the rights. It was an IGN interview where Murphy had stated that Michael Bay, Robert Zemeckis, and Joseph Kahn had expressed interest in the property.

Wow, that's new on me. I didn't know Bay was a name for this movie way back then. Interesting. I'll have to find that.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing.

Who? Don Murphy or Zemeckis?

Neither did Dragonheart.

You never know. When Bay signed on he brought his The Island writers to come aboard and tailor it more to what he wanted...so I don't see why another director couldn't do the same.

no..

Stevie S went to the writers that he got for the island when they were working on MI:3 and got them to write a script for himself...

it's also been said that (just like the island) Stevie S sent the script(draft oneish) to bay
(bay not wanting to do it...at first)

I've seen this movie and I would like to answer the question of this thread with a resounding HELL, YEAH!!:up:

I give this movie two thumbs up only because I have only two thumbs.:up:

I figure that because of Bays obvious distinct style and pizzaz

that his films are either love or hate

Do you have links for that info? I'd like to read up on that.

yea...but it's tricky i've read so damn much these days

u kinda have to mix and match i guess

first read the new interview with the writers on the main page

as far as bay getting the call and berg sending him a (second) script

that was from one of the interview on Michaelbay.com

it was also in the bay interview from the main page as well...or maybe that press conference with bay and the two female leads...in australia

I have but only one regret regarding this movie: that I did not buy tickets for the next screening.

Gotcha...good read.

SHH!: If you were working on this hoping to entice Michael after working with him on "The Island," did you deliberately try to put in stuff that might be typical of a Michael Bay movie?
Orci: I think we decided more that the paradigm of what the movie should be in general was suitable for Michael Bay, as opposed to trying to write it for Michael Bay. He's the car chase king and he shoots speed and motion better than anybody, and once you have Transformers, characters who are literally vehicles, it wasn't a long jump to think that he might be good for any version of "Transformers."
Kurtzman: But it obviously helps, just in terms of thinking about your action sequences as you're going through the script and designing moments, it always helps to know who you're writing for.

They say they didn't exactly write the story to fit Bay...but if they knew a different director was attached (Zemeckis for example) don't you think they might tailor it to THAT particular director's strengths?
