Superman Returns Was Superman Returns the perfect movie?

the only problem i had with this movie was that routh didnt have enough dialouge but he was still great. i just wanna see more of his skills.

It's a shame that you think that. Routh wasn't terrible, unlike Bosworth, but he wasn't great, or even good. He was flat and dull the whole way through, and that's why he wasn't given much dialogue if you ask me; they were trying to disguise his lack of acting ability.

Persoanlly, I hope he gets some voice coaching before the next movie. I think this is where he needs the most improvement.

Worse than "Superman IV"?

Angeloz

That's getting a bit recockulous.

By the way, I'll take your silence as a yes. Indicating you did have Sarah Connor hair in '84 meaning the Terminator 1 is indeed perfect.

Me too, its the better movie IMO.

:yay:

I did like T2, but to be honest I don't find it to be as great as everyone says. It more or less followed the same formula as the first and Arnie wasn't allowed to kill anyone? WTF!

Undoubtedly. The concept for SIV was very good and 1/2 the film was good.

SR just mistepped almost each moment.

I'll grant you it was a great concept but really.:wow: I saw that film in the cinema and it was a complete disappointment especially as I'd read the Junior Novel which I loved. Just terrible. As you know I disagree with you about "Superman Returns".

I'm afraid to ask about that word. But it was amusing.

Well, it's not actually true. I had a mullet like 15 years ago. I'll bet you had Sarah Conner hair in '84!

As for the perfect movie. There's no such thing every movie has it's faults. Except for Batman '89. That movie is perfect. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be burned at the stake.

Joker dancing to Prince music is not perfect...

Totally according to the character of Joker.

If he was dancing Prince at home, then it's a wtf situation.

He dancing it in the middle of a bunch of smiling corpses is a different story.

The reason he didnt have many lines was because they let his facial expressions tell a lot of the story and his feelings IMO.

Superman 4 was utter garbage and makes SR look like the greatest film ever made.

It was Nicholson's dancing that was not perfect:yay:

Great Scott!!!!, I agree with El Payaso:wow:

Oh good lord worse than Superman 4. You know that Superman 4 was so awful that Chris Reeve supposedly had never even seen it because he was so embarassed by it. I thought SR was good not great but heck the plane rescue sequence alone puts it ahead of Superman 3 and 4 for me those films were just that bad.

Agreed, i actually find SR better than ALL of the Reeve movies, but i can understand when people say they like the first 2 more. 3 and 4 though, dont hold a candle to SR.

It's funny you should say that because I thought his facial expressions were fairly poor. Particularly, in lacking that steely-eyed look of grim determination that Reeve had, the signature look that made him definitive as Superman IMO. The closest Routh came to it was when he was lifting NK, but to be honest, he just looked constipated to me at that point.

I don't know if you read my review (I posted it in one of the threads), but one thing I mentioned in there was that I can definitley see the potential in Routh to play a really good Superman, but I think he needs a few years to brush up his skills first.

Well, maybe the same as Routh's constipation, Christopher Reeve's grim determination look was due to someone letting fall a heavy object on his foot as the cameras were rolling?

I mean, it's all so subjective now.

I don't think "Superman Returns" was the perfect movie but it was pretty damn good as far a plot goes.

Certainly the Jon Cryer character and the 'nuclear man' WERE rubbish. But the nuclear disarmament storyline is probably the best concept for a Superman story out of all 5 live action films.

Despite the crap in it, I can enjoy it for what it is, while sR was just wrong in so many ways as well as bad. I cannot even watch it.

FOr the record, here's my assesment of the Superman films on an out of 10 scale.

Superman: The Movie 8.0
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut 7.5
Superman II 7.0
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace 4.0
Superman III 3.0
Superman Returns 1.0

Supergirl 4.0

It's not so much that SIV was 'good' it was just better than III and SR, but still far off the pace of S:TM and both versions of II.

You definately are harsh towards "Superman Returns". Although which version of "Supergirl" are you rating 'cos I heard the American version sucked compared to what we saw as they took out stuff.

I'll be honest, I don't recall the American version, I have the DVD of the longer International Version. It's not horrible, it's fun and harmless stuff.

As for being harsh, it isn't a surprise is it? I've actually gone up a notch from a 0 to a 1 to account for the fact that it does look pretty. People like what they like. I'm sure I'm one of the few that likes Daredevil as much as I do. Here's the full list. Films not listed I haven't seen. I think I remember all the films I've seen, but I could be forgetting something.

You like "Batman & Robin" more? :wow:

Angeloz

It's bad but it's not wrong. That's the difference I'm working with. I actually own the VHS of B&R, but I've only ever seen SR once. I got rid of a free copy, unopened. I truly think it is the worst comic book movie on that list. No joking.

Oddly enough, B&R would fit very well within the sixties TV show universe. If you think about it that way it's quite enjoyable. It gets 2.5 b/c that's not really what they were intending even though it did draw heavily on that era.

I have the video too of "Batman & Robin" because it was heavily discounted and I wanted to see how bad it was (before we had DVD). I'll admit I don't really remember it much and I'm very thankful of that fact. I've only seen it once. I might one day watch the commentary with the director because I've heard he apologises. I got the Batman film tin with the four films. I haven't got around to watching them though. I almost wish I remembered enough to debate how bad the film was. But I can't. I will say it's the only Batman film I never saw in the cinema in the past 20 years (we never got "The Mask of the Phantasm" unfortunately but we got it on video and DVD thankfully). I'm glad I skipped it. Urgh.

By the way what little I remember of the sixties show I like. I used to love it as a kid. I got to see some of it again as a teenager. But they haven't shown it in the past ten years and unfortunately it'll probably never be on DVD unless two companies finally agree to make money from them. But from what I can remember it was much better than the film. Even with the camp. Because it had more than that (I grant you it's been awhile though).

Assume you're only including live action.
Ever see "Superman and the Mole Men"? The George Reeves feature film.
In some ways considering your take on the character, and your rule of thumb, it might make #1.
It's FX are understandably hokey, but it's portrayal of The Man of Steel sure fits our bill.
