I feel like I'm going round and round in circles here, in the various threads, so I thought I'd just come out and ask it. I personally didn't like Superman Returns. In fact, in all honsety, I hated it. That's not because it was a terrible movie; it's because it wasn't a terrific movie. And yes, I know, my hopes were too high, and I set myself up for a fall.

But personal opinion aside, I honestly thought it was a fairly decent film. I think there were fantastic parts of it that I really enjoyed (as I've said repeatedly, I LOVED the rescue scenes), but for me, the bad parts of the film were too much and I just couldn't get past them

What I want to know is this; instead of arguing and just out and out denying that there were even any single flaws in the film, if I can happily say, yes there were good parts of the film, but that was not enough for me to love it, why can those that love it not just say yes, there were some awful parts, but they were not enough to make me not love it?

So basically, what I want to know is, do some of you actually believe the movie was flawless and perfect?

I think it is somewhere in the middle. A very good movie that missed being great due to characterization not being exactly where it needed to be. It's not the failure people make it out to be, nor is it the blueprint of comic book films. It's just a good movie.

I can't say that I've seen people proclaim it as perfect (that's not to say it hasn't happened, only that I haven't seen it). Most of the positive opinions on the movie that I'm aware of (mine included) can acknowledge the flaws/shortcomings of SR, while still finding it to be a good film.

You can't say personal opinions aside, and then give your opinion. That kind of defeats the purpose of saying personal opinions aside.

No movie is flawless and perfect.

I haven't seen the perfect movie yet.

That said, for a Superman movie, SR was far better than I imagined it would be.

That said, Batman Begins had lots of flaws.

A few nearly flawless movies:

Fargo
Goodfellas
The Godfather I
Back to the Future
Glengarry Glen Ross

I've seen two of those. I'll admit that "Fargo" was absolute torture for me to watch. I think it was because it sometimes felt like from the criminals perspective and I just don't like that. Never have. I can watch things that do that but I never like it. It's one of the films that convinced me award shows shouldn't be the basis to watch a film.

I agree i have never heard people say SR was perfect, in fact to say so would be stupid IMO.

It has flaws, but Dr.Collusus, the problem is, we have discussed its flaws for the past year, and we dont want to anymore.:yay:

No movie is flawless and perfect.

Some that come damn close...IMO

Shane
West Side Story
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Wizard of Oz
Die Hard
Magnificent Seven

Did I say "No movie comes close to being flawless and perfect." or did I say "No movie is flawless and perfect."? I have many personal favorites that come CLOSE too.....but that wasn't what the thread starter was talking about.

Aahh, so you only want to talk to people who share your opinion. ;)

You're right, I meant feelings not opinions. But more important is the context and the meaning. Don't try to play word games to undermine an argument; sound counter-arguments are better.

Damn, I SO agree! :)

I loved Superman Returns. It's right up there with Batman Begins on my list.

as for being perfect... it has it's faults, here and there...

Damn Donner movies' quotes. They were as unnecessary as Batman begins one-liners.

Well if talking to those that disagree is out in this thread. What about pillow fighting instead? ;) :oldrazz:

^I'm all out of pillows!

But seriously, if anyone wants me to discuss my problems with the movie, either look through my past posts or create a thread were i can do so!
