Not only is the lady (forgot her name) able to fly in space with supes but he pulls it again at the end with a little kid!

Now I'm all for things being far fetched but how can you possibly think the audience wouldn't notice that:

a) People can't breath in a vacuum?
b) Ever seen a demonstration of a vacuum in science class - they would have swelled up like balloons and exploded
c) If they survive those scenarios how do you stop them from burning to a crisp on re-entry?!

Wow . . . that movie sucked on so many levels and now I own it because I bought the Ultimate Edition. Wow, wow, wow.

I can't wait til I get the guts to watch the film with the commentary. I can't wait to see how the screenwriter explains that and many other inconsistencies in the picture.

I loved this movie.

hmm...

No movie is perfect.

hmm... what else...

At least it was bold enough to try something new.

and.... what else.

It's the little things...

wash rinse repeat.

Yeah it was bad enough taking Lacy into space, but taking Jeremy up there too?

Also, what about the extended scene of Lois and Superman flying which was shortened for the theatrical version? How much did they have of Lois flying just by herself?

I have high hopes for that one. I just hope the director is brutally honest about the production and how cheap everything was. Some of the stories I've read about the making are hilarious. Besides, I really don't see why the director wouldn't be straightforward, since Cannon is no longer around.

As for Superman taking people into space, that never really bothered me as a kid. Oh hell, let's just say he extends some type of aura to protect them. (Kind've like the mermaid protecting Tom Hanks in Splash.)

When you're dealing with a character who has already projected holograms of himself, split himself into two distinct personalities, and rebuilt the Great Wall of China using his eyes...what's one more liberty? :woot:

And before we lay the blame at anyone who is not Richard Donner, let's face it, Superman has done some pretty strange things in the comic...for decades.

 Obviously not, but some are closer to being perfect that others. Superman IV is so far away from perfection it's in a different zip code.

First sentence:

"You can tell from the very first shot, that says 'Warner Brothers', that something is terribly wrong in Metropolis..."

Oh, this should be a good one. :woot:

Oh don't be such a negative hater...:o

the movie is crap. the deleted scenes are crappier. having the deleted scenes re-cut into the movie (which I can see why they didn't bother doing) to make the original 2 and a half hour cut of the movie would have made it slightly better on one hand because it would have filled in certain plot holes but on the other hand would have made it worse because it would have just extended the suck.

Funny to watch in a very pathetic and sad way. What a horrible way to end things.

Of all the Superman movies, this made me laugh and wtf?! the most. I should watch it again.

This movie really needed a re-write. Needed to nix Lenny. Needed to make Lex Darker. Needed to get Lex out of the top of the Empire State Building and into an underground hideout. More darker. And more of the world political ramifications should have been put into it. And Nuclear man should have been in ghetto clothes. It could have been a good movie, even with the budget problems. Too bad it was about 4 years away from digital compositing.

i got the strength to listen to the supergirl commentary i have faith in you!:oldrazz:
it was actually funny to hear them on supergirl say how good some parts where and blame the cut of the movie for its failures- watching the commentary can be more entertaining than a movie itself- it can turn the horror of a movie like superman 4 into a comedy

the only reason I liked this movie so much is because it was the first action film I could understand as a kid.

What's funny is even though it's probably a worse film than Superman 3 it's actually less of an insult than Superman 3. Look at the poster for Superman 3, it looks like a Mad Magazine cover. Superman 4 is terrible, but at least they tried.

Superman 3 is a complete insult to Superman. There are extremely long stretches without Clark or Superman, and instead having a bumbling rediculous Pryor. Lester has complete control to camp the entire film. Just a few minutes of screen time for Lois simply because the Salkinds hated Kidder. No respect was given to the most famous hero in the world.

Did the sound come & go with everyone elses deleted scenes on the Supeman 4 dvd?

lol

I'm not a hater, I own Superman IV and desperately wanted it to be good. I feel sorry for everyone involved. I don't even think it was bad in design, just in execution. But is is crap. Undeniably.

So I guess watching Rambo or Commando might've been too much for you. :woot:

Doesnt anyone think that Lois being thrown , spine first against the plane, not once but three times in SR, would have broken her spine? Injured it at the very least and she wouldnt have gotten up and walked off the plane of her own accord.

How did Superman get that NK to the sun while it drained his powers and other times, he couldnt even get up off the floor after being exposed to kryptonie. I know he went to the sun to refresh his energy, but to me, that exposure to NK, would have sapped it long before he got the NK to the sun.

There's always things in movies that defy logic and reality. IMHO what's wrong with Superman 3 and 4 are too much crooks and too little Superman. When you have Superman/Clark in scenes, they work pretty well. (Although, admittedly, the special effects on 4 were anything but special.) :)

So saying this I'll conclude that a bad Superman film with Chris Reeve, is still more enjoyable to me than a great special effects Superman film with a medocre actor.

I never was able to get into those movies... not my field of interest.

Why did they use Nuclear Man instead of Bizarro? That would have made the movie 10x better.

I saw S:IV in the theater when I was 16,and I remember thinking that Their wouldnt be any more Superman films for a long time after that mess of a film..the only saving grace was Chris, and even he couldnt save it....Now my daughter wants to see it,so I suppose i'll sit through it again.

Hey, maybe you could get a good laugh, eh?

They said it was supposed to be chris fighting himself, but they didn't ahve the money to do that, and they had already done that in 3. The writers said that they intended for a darker film, and that nuclear man, Mark Pillow, and the costume that he wore was not what they intended. The thing needed a serious re-write, and Warner's demaning that Golan and Globus put back all the 40 mill they gave them to make it back into the film.

You're right there, atleast they were trying with Superman IV, and atleast he was the star of his own film again!

I remember planning on going to see Superman IV in the threatre with a few buds of mine.

Apparently we couldn't get things together enough to go (we were only 13-14 years old and not old enough to drive -- the bus commute was going to take too long).

But anyhow, I finally got to see it when it arrived on VHS.

And I was like: "Huh?? Why??" I really couldn't even express such disgust in words.

As much as I loved Superman, that movie was by far some of the worst footage put down to film.

And from there, we all got the sense that the Superman movie series was over and dead as a door knob.
