Watchmen Prequel?

Interestingly enough, shortly after finishing Watchmen, Alan Moore contemplated doing a Minutemen prequel. Would've been very interesting, but like I said, only Alan Moore should attempt any continuations of the Watchmen world. It's one thing for Hayter and Tse to adapt Moore's story, adding their own little interesting bits here and there, but no way could they come up with a story of that calibur on their own.

Actually, I remember it being a sequel. Any links to prove this?

At the end of Dave Gibbons "Watching The Watchmen" he says that after the GN was released to global acclaim DC approached them for a sequel. A Comedian War Diary was one of the ideas... I dont reckon It was received very warmly..

Aren't there enough prequels already? Shut up.

Take it easy man! It was just a thought, an interesting idea I thought because I thought Nite Owl II and Rorschach are two of the most interesting characters of the story. And if it were to come to fruition (which I highly doubt) I would want the creator of the comic to be involved.

Hell no...It would never work...first of all there's that video game coming out that's pretty much already a prequel...I don't see them making a movie of that. :o

A standalone Rorshach movie would be cool, maybe throw him meeting Nite Owl II towards the end...but as others have suggested, it's almost blasphemous to want such a thing. I do say though, Walter Kovacs could be deserving of his own movie.

Call it Rorschach: Origins....and somehow it will still manage to be awesome...but Jackie Earle Haley must come back.

Rorschach wouldn't be as interesting on his own.

You could have some of the other characters make cameos, but later in the movie. Dammit...this was meant to be a joke, and now i'm analyzing the hell out of it.

If there was one (since this thread is inhabiting fantasy land) i think the Minutemen would be the best way to go. Focus on Hooded Justice, Nite Owl 1, Silk Spectre, Silhouette, and Comedian. End with the announcement of Dr. Manhattan's existence..."Superman is real and he's American..."

The dawn of the super-hero, and the masked heroes realizing that they're obsolete

It's been rumored around to do sequels so there's no "inhabiting fantasy island" & no doubt Hollywood will find a way to ruin it all. They can't just leave it at 1 film. The jerks. Snyder already confessed he wouldn't be involved whatsoever if they were to go ahead & make a sequel.
:nono:

If Donnie Darko can get a sequel, so can this.
I'm not saying it's right but it'll probably happen. :csad:

I would love to see a prequel of the 1940s Minutemen and the early days of the Watchmen. I really enjoyed the film.

I know alot of you "Super" Watchmen fans would consider this blasphemy but I would like to see a Watchmen prequel with Nite Owl II and Rorschach fighting crime together before the Keene Act. I guess with the right script it would be pretty amazing but this my opinion. However I would like to know how the rest of you all would feel about it.

They already have something like this. It's an XBOX Live download called
WATCHMEN: THE END IS NIGH. Stars Rorschach and Nite Owl II as they bust street crime. It's ok. Basically just a Beat'em-Up. But at least they have the film actors playing the voices.

Oh, and Verizon or Cingular or whatever has some cheapo Watchmen game you can download to your phone. I know in one level you get to play as the Comedian in Vietnam.

Now the video game was bad, but it really showed just following only two of the characters (much less one) on early adventures is dull. The book is a reflection on the morality of authority and how it justifies itself through the superhero medium. Each character represents a different ideology and concept and the three most intergal are Dr. Manhattan, Ozymandias and Rorschach. To make a movie that is just about one of them having some fun action adventures really destroys the entire idea of it. Rorschach is just Moore's analysis of what Batman would be in real life: A ****ed up right wing/jingoistic fascist nut job-absolutist psychopath with a death wish. Albeit a lovable one. A movie about just him? Why not focus on making more Batman movies instead.

Hell yes i would want it! im not one of those guys that worship Moore and see it as herecy a prequel set in the 70s with Rorschach and Nite Owl 2 would be amazing imo they where just so good in the movie they had a chemistry that i cant place, just them walking side by side is thrilling stuff a movie with them fighting crime and debating and arguing would rock there is almost a Hawk and Dove thing going on with them that demands more screentime i want to see more.

This is correct. The idea of a Watchmen prequel that's just some buddy superhero adventure movie seems to fly in the face of everything Watchmen was about.

Watchmen without a sequel and/or prequel: "Fine like this."

I just don't see how it could be pulled off.

Alan Moore is doing a sequel to his Watchmen, though. Why can't they just adapt that?

The first Watchmen movie didn't even really do that well, and now some people want a prequel?
