WB and Takashi Miike to go on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

How do you even do Jojo movie. There is no way actors can look any similar to the characters. This isnt Rurouni Kenshin scenario.

Most of the characters are based on real people though. The protagonists from the first 2 parts were based on Stalone and other 80s actions stars. You'll probably need to change some clothes drasticaly, but i don't find the look all that difficult.

I think the biggest problem might be tone though, this is so over the top that an adaptation will be tricky. Not impossible though, Scott Pilgrim vs the World is the best example of how this should probably look like.

Just gonna sit here and watch this rot in development hell like every other live-action anime movie announced.

I don't see why it will be in development hell if it's a Japanese movie made for Japanese audiences.

Live-action Attack on Titan and Rurouni Kenshin movies all got made and released in Japan. That's probably what the deal is here.

He probably thought this was a hollywood production, and honestly it seems the days anime/manga/ rot in development hell regularly in the west is nearly over, ghost in the shell and death note are coming out next year and alita the following year. All three of these movies have been in dev hell for nearly a decade or even longer yet they still got made.

The west right now heavily depends on remakes/sequels and comic books movies. The industry is so starved of ideas they are multiple studios out here trying to making the same damn movies, Hercules, Jungle book, Mulan, Peter pan etc it's sad.

I'm actually rooting for assassin's creed and ghost in the shell so those genres can break out in the mainstream.

I'm still not that sure those western adaptations won't suffer more delays (except for Ghost in the Shell, which has already filmed and seems to be in post-production). Didn't WB also announce a Bleach and Naruto movie? They have yet to do anything with that, while Japan is now actualy making their oun live-action Bleach film.

Japan seems to be doing a good job at handling their oun properties. The Rurouni Kenshin films were pretty good and surprisingly had a great cinematography mixed with great battle scenes. They don't realy need Hollywood to get realistic effects anymore.

Here's hoping they will keep proving that good manga adaptations can indeed be done.

The Bleach live-action movie is going to be a Japanese-language production with Japanese actors. That looks to be the same case with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Miike totally embraces the weird and bizarre for his films, so he's a good fit for that manga.

I think there was talk of Hollywood doing a Bleach movie several years ago with WB, but I don't think it ever got out of development phase.

It probably makes more sense spend a fraction of the budget to make a more faithful film that caters to Asian audiences, and it can have a limited run in the west similar to Shin Godzilla.

I disagree, you basically used the only decent live action adaptation as an example. Beyond the kenshin series I can't think of any recent well praised adaptation, in fact japanese critics and fans alike hated the attack on titan movies. This is rare because the japanese are not known for being overly negative, This shocked the director who then attacked critics on facebook.

The japanese industry isn't what it used to be, it's now lagging behind china and maybe even korea.

I doubt japan needs the west but they most certainly want their money so do the chinese and vise versa.

Also alot of people don't know that it was production I.G a japanese animation studio who approached dreamworks on the behalf of kodansha the publisher of ghost in the shell to get a live action movie made. Spielberg didn't go looking for GITS, it got put up for bidding and dreamworks bought the rights.

The three leads.

That's right. But the cast will be Japanese apparently.

They're adapting Part IV, which was one of the only installments to have an entirely-Japanese cast (except for the Italian chef whose name escapes me). They probably didn't want it to end up like Attack on Titan where everyone is played by Japanese actors despite the majority of the cast explicitly being European.

They did say they were thinking of the possibility of doing some of the other installments as international co-productions if this does well.

Visualy looks realy good. Though we'll have to see how the abilities are actualy handled.

that looks bad. my two cents

still can't believe they doing this adaptation.
