I hate the sequel already if singer is involved and i will hate it when i comes out in 3 years. just as i did with the first piece of **** movie.

Right there with you, I will add to that the sequel has to be a restart with no continuity from SR for me to even consider seeing it. Singer won't drop his 'baby' so there's no chance of me seeing a SInger helmed Superman movie ever again. Can I have my money back?

Time will tell. If singer thinks he truly did nothing wrong in crafting this little masterpiece of his, then he'll probably find no reason not to copy superman 2 and add a dash of wrath of khan, like he did to x2 which I realize mirrors Khan a bit. It's not even whether he wants to keep rehashing the donner movies. It's about what he's doing to superman by making him so stupid and dark today. He said in that documentary that superman wasn't about angst, but fighting for justice, truth and all that american stuff. Is he taking superman away from that, is my worry.

He shouldn't be so love-sick in the next movie, thank goodness. I just hope singer reads up on superman a little more and doesn't have him throw kryptonite into space and have pieces of it inside him and such. Set it straight this time. Axe Kitty, forget the salesman Lex, Richard who?, and have superman be with Lois raising Jason and teaching him how to fly... :( actually, I can't really figure out how to set it straight anymore.

Y'see, SR should have been a really bad trip down Mr. Mxyzptlk lane.. and well the sequel opens with him realizing it and he gets rid of Mxy and ...

...well it was better as the ending to SR.

THe only way to really fix it is: RESTART.

you don't have to do a restart to make it a better movie... simply use a brighter color palette, Brainiac for the sequel villain, and start to progress away from the Donnerverse, and you got a better movie already.

THe only way that really works though is now distancing it from the Singerverse. You've got to get rid of the kid, otherwise it's a waste of celluloid. That storyline destroys any feeling of a SUperman movie you might get.

Just restart so the kid doesn't have to be explained away or killed or some such nonsense.

the kid is not the main problem, you know...

I see the main problem as two fold:

1. Trying to recreate the Donnerverse. WHy rehash what has already been done.

2. Not understanding the character (this plays out most obviously in making SUperman a father via the Jerry Springer/ Maury Povich TV show inspired story). THis particular story element is so out of place it completely ruins anything that was done well in the movie. Which wasn't much- just the SUper rescues and FX.

Addendum: 3. It wasn't fun. It was depressing and sad.
Addendum: 4. The script lacked anything remotely interesting as far as interpersonal conflict btw characters. Where there was opportunity in the story the script just had characters stanring into the camera.

OK, so maybe four fold.

You have to get back to basics and just tell a classic SUperman story, with classsic elements in a comic book inspired manner. Superman is not a complicated character. He may have a level of complexity, but he's not complicated and haunted by his errors of judgement. The Superman in SR is just not 'Superman.' SUperman would not do things necessarry to get himself in the siutation that the SR Superman is in.

How would you classify the main problem(s)?

I am sure Singer has plans for the kid that will become crucial to the plot in the upcoming sequels. The kid will most likely be depowered by Superman in order to save his life and/or the character of Richard will be killed of heroically. It's on record that Singer outlined sequels to Returns when in discussion with WB. Whether he stays or not, that's not up to me.

Well it sounds like Singer doesnt want the kid to be flying around in a costume, but i think he will definately have significance in the sequels, and i'm sure he will be put in more danger along with his mother.
