Horror Welcome to Derry - HBO Max Developing IT Prequel Series

Also just had to say, I am gonna miss these kids in the next seasons if they happen. Rich's return drew a genuine gasp from me. And a few episodes ago I really dislikes Marge, but by the end she was one of if not my actual favourite character. Great work in finding such talented child actors.

Chris Chalk is 47? Man looks good for his age. I look older than him and am 5 years younger!

I’m pissed the steelbook sold out super quick. Hopefully it’s available again soon. Loved the finale they did a fantastic job these last 2 episodes. Very excited for the future seasons to come. Bill is just absolutely incredible in this role. He’s absolutely one of the modern day horror icons

yea chris chalk was pretty great in this as dick halloran.

he mentions he's going off to london to work at a hotel now.
can totally see a miniseries of halloran using his abilities solving supernatural mysteries in london and eventually ends with him at the overlook hotel.

Me, too! I would love that! :D

I sixth the sentiment about bringing Chris Chalk back to do that Overlook spinoff. It’s the most no-brainer, obvious route and easiest decision to make to go with a spinoff for this series, and they practically have it teed up right there at the very end for someone else to take a swing at. If not, that’s just money they’re leaving on the table.

The thing I'm curious about with a Hallorann spinoff is, which one are we getting? Book Shining or Kubrick Shining? Either one lines up with the Welcome to Derry timeline (book was published in 1977 and the movie was in 1980) but for his character it makes all the difference.

I think it’s movie timeline based on this AMA from the Muschietti’s on Reddit.

It would make sense since the movie is of course very popular but he at least survives in the book. :csad:

I haven’t read the book yet. How is it? I know it’s supposed to be really different from the film.

can't escape it being tied to the kubrick version of the shining because that one is in everyone's cultural memory vs the book.

which would make halloran a more tragic character since he doesn't survive the overlook hotel in the film version. dammit kubrick!

I haven't read it in about 12-13 years but I liked it. There are a few aspects that I liked a little better than the movie. But all things considered, the movie is different enough to stand on its own. I actually think the movie is scarier and I have to agree with King about a big criticism he had with it: You can totally buy Jack Nicholson is going to snap the moment you see him. Which is obviously true, but that doesn't make him any less great in the role. Though it is more unnerving in the book with Jack Torrance as a more mild mannered guy.

Since in this last episode we learned that It experiences time all at once, and it’s been established in the book and the film that Dick Hallorann can see the future, it would be kind of fun if directors and writers played around with our knowledge of the film in a meta way by showing us how events in the future could happen, and a lot of those visions he gets are how things play out in the book. So, in the Overlook series, we get both the book version while also adhering to what was established in the film.

It would also be a fun way mess with our expectations of whether those future events with Jack, Wendy amd Danny Torrence will occur how they do in the book or in the film, just to keep us on our toes. Maybe even bring Mike Flanagan back and have him be a producer and direct an episode or two to tie it all together as a bonus.
