Drama The Idol (HBO) - The Weeknd Co-Creates, Stars

Weird thing is the episode on July 2 was promoted as the season finale.

I was under the impression based on what I'd read that this show would have six episodes. So either they cut the promo wrong or, maybe, they cut an episode? Otherwise, five is such a weird episode number for a show to have. Again, maybe they cut the promo wrong, maybe they got renewed and moved the episode back, or maybe HBO cut it?

Just weird is all.

Yeah, agreed, it's odd...unless next weeks episode is two episodes combined for a two hour finale. There are also people who are listed in the cast on IMDB and in all the casting announcements who haven't even shown up yet. One being Anne Heche, this was her last role before her death, the other being Nomi Malone herself Elizabeth Berkeley. Wild guessing has Heche possibly playing her mother in flashbacks.

So...they couldnt even bank on hate watching with this it seems.
A show that offended and annoyed everyone so hard that people didnt even wanted to hate watch it and complain...that is kind of spectacular in this day and age.

Well, at least this appeals to the five or so people who were wondering how Lily-Rose Depp moans.

With only five episodes, this'll just go down as a footnote. To think HBO had this on Sunday nights after Succession instead of just letting Perry Mason air on Sundays again instead of porting it to Mondays.

Oh geez...I shouldn't even have to explain this. It was more the timing of the announcement. One typically equates the Academy with acting and for him to be invited while his abysmal performance in The Idol is currently a hot topic was hilarious to me.
And yes, I know he was invited because of music...he should stick to it.

I'm more surprised it happened now and not 6-7 years ago closer to when he was nominated.

His acting isn't even the problem with the show. He's not great, but not terrible either. It's like some people want to go overboard with their criticism to shame him out of the field.
Other than acting, he's also writing, producing and is being listed as a creator of the show. So whatever reason anyone thinks the show sucks, he's still, for the most part, responsible for that.

I'm curious what the Amy Seimetz version of the show was before they kicked her out and refilmed 80% of the show.

"I hate his vibe!"

"He's so rapey!"

"Yeah, I kinda like that about him."

At the risk of sounding like a prude, this show is absolutely vile.

Ehhhh I love Weeknd's music but his acting in here was really bad haha. I do think people go overboard with 99% of criticisms nowadays but he was really bad.
"Look at her again and drag you down Rodeo"...yeesh

And it was especially worse when he was trying to be sexy or whatever.

That's obviously the choice scene where his acting is objectively bad, but the final episode where Tedros is supposed to come off as pathetic and defeated he's solid.

They released a music video that has a lot of footage that was cut out of the show.

Big fan of The Weeknd so I wish it worked out. But damn what a misfire this was. I couldn't even get past 2 episodes. And the clips I saw...yeesh.

I know he did that cameo in Uncut Gems, but he should've started smaller. Did a few other roles. Say what you want about Harry Styles trying to crossover but he didn't do the most like Weeknd tried to with The Idol. I wonder how Frank Ocean's project is gonna turn out

HBO must be very glad that TLOU was a hit because Winning Time and The Idol don't seem to be hitting like they want them to
