Fantasy Wes Ball To Direct Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie For Sony Pictures

Which Zelda do you think this is based on?

If I had to guess, probably a mix of Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, since they’re the most recent and current popular games in the series and Zelda has the most agency and gets the most she’s ever had to do in the whole series, and Ocarina of Time, which is considered to be the most popular overall and would give Hunter the opportunity to do some action as Sheik, not to mention fun opportunities for crossdressing and code-switching. BOTW/TOTK also seems like what Wes Ball would pull inspiration from and use as a template since they’re very similar to what he did with KOTPOTA with all of the traversing, meeting other characters and certain ruins/technology of the old world kind of playing a key role in the plot.

I imagine this will probably be some sort of remix/interpretation using familiar elements of other games but does it own thing.

Personally I'd like to see the first movie be inspired by Skyward Sword since that is the first game in the Zelda timeline. That way you get the origin of the Master Sword in the first movie which then could end with the birth of Hyrule and teasing the birth of Ganon. And it would be easier to avoid an eventual sequel that is just more of the same

make it based on spirit tracks because that one had a train in it and trains are cool

I would be absolutely shocked if Kit Connor doesn’t get the lead in this. He feels like he’s just about to break into Hollywood and I bet Nintendo would love him.

Imagine that as a pride month announcement, bi Link and trans Zelda :swoon:

Give to me, Wes Ball. I will sing your praises forever and you will be a hero to the queer community. We will line up opening night carrying a 1,000-foot Pride flag.
Imagine if there are sequels and each film they cast a different actor and actress for Link, Zelda and Ganon at least one of them is a member of the LGBTQIA+. I mean, Link in the video games already gives twink energy and many of the ancillary characters give gay vibes anyway. Why not just lean into it and cast gay, bi, trans and/or ace people for the roles?

How cool would it be in future films if they cast Morgan Davies, Emma Korrin or Justice Smith as Link, Emma Korrin or Kiersey Clemons as Zelda, or Colman Domingo, Lee Pace or Luke Evans as Ganon?

Yeah, a while back before this movie was announces, I remember suggesting they should do a Zelda TV series with every season being based on a different game and featuring a new cast, since most of the games are reimaginings of the Link/Zelda/Gannon story just in a new reality. So I think something like this could definitely work in a movie too. And yeah, it would be great if they got queer actors for some or most of the roles in each version.

Colman would be absolutely iconic as Ganon.

Also, Nathan lane as Darunia

So it won't compete with Sonic 4 and GvK 3 in the same month anymore. I'm fine with that.

My own personnel fancast, I'm thinking Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace as Link and Zelda.

I'm glad they're casting young. Link and Zelda are teenagers and they're aiming for a trilogy. This is easily my most anticipated upcoming movie.

It’ll be fun if they cast young, make two films, then have a bit of a break and make a third with adult Link
