What about Thundarr the Barbarian?

All I see is a picture of Ookla. Are you saying that he'll be in CGI?

HELL NO! Absolutely no CGI for Ookla! Except maybe for when he's throwing ancient dumptrucks. No, there was an actual picture there. I guess the site I got it from isn't compatable with SHH. I'll update it as soon as I can. My computer's kinda testy. It freezes up on me every 20 minutes or so, so I gotta let it rest for 20 minutes or so before I can get on the internet again.

 for your casting.

Please post the picture when you can.

Here's another picture of him.

Jared Padalecki looks more like Thundarr than Conan anyway.

That's pretty good casting. The only one I have issues with is Nathan Jones as Ookla. Unless you're planning on using a bunch of (unnecessary) CGI and camera tricks to make him look 8' tall, you need to find an actor who is at least 7' tall to play along side the "average" sized actors. A better choice might be Ron Reise. He wrestled in WCW as The Yeti, and as Reese from Raven's Flock. He also wrestled elsewhere as Big Ron Studd (a tribute to his mentor, the late great Big John Studd). He stands 7'3", is very muscular, and (unlike The Great Khali) there's no language barrier. And because the character's lines will all be replaced with "mok-speak", his actual acting skill is a non-issue.

On a side note, Thundarr The Barbarian is now available on DVD. It's only available through the WB website, is produced by order, and they only deliver in the US (so us Canadian Thundarr fans are screwed, thank you WB). I understand that there are no special features, and the transfer quality is roughly the equivilant of a very well done bootleg. It's also very expensive (about $50 per set + shipping) especially considering how little effort is put into their production. But it's better than nothing
I suppose.

However, Amazon does have copies for sale at a reduced rate (about $30) and I think they do do international shipping.

I've just finished writing Act I of my Thunarr The Barbarian movie script. You can read it using the following link, http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7987116/1/Thundarr_The_Barbarian_The_Movie.

Give it a look see and maybe write a review for it (my FanFiction.net account is set up to allow anonymous reviews). I hope you enjoy it. I still have a lot of work to do (Act II and Act III) but I think I'm off to a pretty good start.

Sadly Thundarr was bought by the gargantuan WB, so like all it's other comic and cartoon properties that aren't Batman or Superman they are just going to sit on them, without a clue as to how or why to even develop them, since they have so many other things being developed anyway. And they'd rather sit on it doing nothing than let anybody else develop it.

Plus their corporate mind will see nothing but the furry loincloth and sword and draw a direct correlation to Conan and Warlord of Mars, which did poorly and they'll think the audience doesn't want "these type" of movies. Even though it's a completely different concept.

True. However, WB is never solely reponsible for the development of any product. It is always a collaborative effort between them and others. For example, Universal Studios produced the Conan movies in the 1980s, but the name listed in the credits is Dino DeLaurentis. Same with WB. Go back and watch any movie by WB (Batman, Harry Potter, whatever). It begins with the WB logo, then lists the producers and directors, who don't necessarily work for Warner Bros.

Sadly, that is a possibility. But if pitched to them correctly, making them see that the concept and the execution will be completely different, they may see past any superficial similarities.

I've never seen Warlord Of Mars, but I did see Jason Mamoa's Conan. The problem wasn't that audiences don't like these kinds of movies. The problem was that Conan was very poorly executed, with too much emphasis being put on the fancy new CGI effects and 3D gimmick and less put into quality writing and acting. If I can be given the opportunity to make my Thundarr movie my way, I won't make that mistake.

Sad but true. :csad:

Not entirely true. As I said before, Warner doesn't produce anything 100% on their own. No one does.

Conan The Barbarian (1982): Universal Film; Produced by Dino DeLaurentis

Star Wars (1977): 20th Century Fox Film; Produced by George Lucas & Lucas Films

Excalibur (1981): WB Film; Produced by Edgar F. Gross & Robert A. Einstein

Batman (1988): WB Film; Produced by Guber-Peters Company

And those are just a few examples. Every movie that is ever made in Hollywood is made the same way. You have the studio with their fancy logo at the opening, then during the opening credits you get the listing of the producers who did the actual work, along with the director and stars. Which means Warner Brothers doesn't have to sell the property, they just have to agree to let another company produce it. Whether or not they actually do is questionable, but with the right sales pitch, not impossible.

Will you settle for partly true? :cwink:

LOL! Well by process of elimintation, if something isn't entirely true, then it must at least be partially true.

It is true that Warner Brothers owns the copyright to Thundarr. It's true that they've been sitting on the property for the past 30 years and have made little to no attempt to cash in on that little gem. They haven't given it a proper DVD/Blu-Ray release. They only recently gave Toynami permission to produce Thundarr action figures, and even then only the three main characters (and 30 years too late for kids to be interested). It's also true that they rarely, if ever, make any of the characters they own the rights to into movies. Even Bugs Bunny gets screwed over in favor of Batman and Superman.

However, they don't make movies entirely on their own. They take all the credit when their movies are a hit. They like to interfere with the writers and directors vision, even when they have no idea what they're doing (like what happened to Buffy The Vampire Slayer back in 1991). But they also don't produce the movies 100% on their own. It's always a collaborative effort between them and other producers, like my above examples prove.

So making a Thundarr movie would simply require asking them their permission to ask other producers to make the movie. Don't ask them for money. Simply offer to make it a Warner Brothers movie, but a (for example) Mutant Enemy & Ruby-Spears production.

I have been working on a script for a live action Thundarr movie for several weeks now. In fact I started it over a year ago, but a combination of Writer's Block and other projects have gotten in the way. I'm still far from finished, but what I have done can be found on www.fanfiction.net.

You can all read what I have done at: www.fanfiction.net/s/7987116/1/Thundarr_The_Barbarian_The_Movie.

I've been getting some pretty good reviews on this project. Feel free to post reviews of your own. Hope you all like it.

YES! I have finally finished my script for Thundarr The Barbarian: The Movie! Now I just gotta get the damn thing made. Go ahead and read it. I think you'll like it!
