That's my theory:
After one or two movies with new characters/Avengers, less profitable and successful with general public, they'll pull the Captain America and Iron Man counterparts from branched realities straight into the Mainstream Continuity and will do an 'Avengers' movie with the classic line-up reunited (sort of).
