What do you hate about comic books?

This to the tenth power. I understand having faith in these writers because they sell, but there is no reason why they should give a deep universe to one person. Personal bias will always get in the way at some point in time. It also hurts writers who want to establish things in other titles.

One thing I also hate is how some editors like Joey Q., when he was EIC, have this smugness about them whenever some fans complain. Something dumb happens and they just blow it off as a small minority of people who don't matter because they don't know what sells. Well that would be fine and dandy if this wasn't the worst time in comic sales history. The market is shrinking and here you have a bunch of idiots acting like their ideas are what's best for the industry because some hardcore fans of a dying generation are sticking around. Catering to those fans are what's killing the market in the first place.

Agreed in full. Some fans argue that the 90's were the worst decade in comics. The truth is, the industry doesn't seem to have learned anything from the mistakes of the 90's, other than the variant cover gimmick. They're still making the same asinine moves and alienating fans left and right.

I have to agree with that E-Man, something I hate about comics isn't necessarily about comics so much comic fans. I am a comic collector I have 40 long boxes of comics in my basement, but it drives me nuts when collectors can't have gaps in their titles even if they hate it! I don't buy Spider-man anymore because I don't agree with what they did in One More Day, I stopped buying FF when Mark Millar was writing it because I didn't like it. I hear a ton of people complain about all the crossovers and how they do it to much, well I don't buy them. I know my little protest isn't going to change anything but hey I'm not spending my money on it.

I mostly hate how Mrvel and DC feel they have to keep reinventing themselves to get new fans. Mostly this happens when new movies come out and they get the trendys who come and check out a few issues and then stop buying, while the loyalist who have been hanging on for years get there characters screwed over. Case in point One More Day in Spider-man, which was just a middle finger to long time collectors. There are ways to bring about real natural changes with characters with out big event or quick radical changes.

Nothing wrong with reinventing yourself if it's progressively sound. Everyone has to evolve sometime, but the problem is that there is not much evolution in comics at the high level. Just gimmick after gimmick without much long term planning. You mentioned One More Day, and that's a perfect example of a poor gimmick. Nothing wrong with Peter and MJ breaking up. There was great potential with a story of them divorcing, or maybe she dies like a lot of other people Pete loves. But at what point in time was it reasonable to have them break up because the devil made them do it? Really? They want the character to be easy to relate to a newer generation by making Faustian deals to bring back a character that should have been dead a long time ago? If they would have divorced them it could have gotten some outside attention for a major, iconic superhero had a divorce. Instead they went with something that just didn't make much sense.

I can't tell, I don't read any BUT I know some stuff from a colleague of mine so :

- the every colors in the spectrum Lantern Corps
- red Hulk, red she Hull, red Gran'Pa Hulk
- when the authors turn a male character into a woman ( usually with big breast ), female Ultron, Lokiette.

The lack of competition bothers me. DC lowers their price to $3 and Marvel tries to spin that move as treating their writers and artists bad by giving them two less page per job.

I'm OK with paying $4 for a comic, but it better not have any ads. I love plenty of IDW books right now. But Marvel is really bothering me and I've been a Marvel Zombie for a while.

I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Dropped all but two $4 books (Childrens Crusade & Punisher MAX). In the process of that I dropped both Uncanny's so I won't be dealing with the annual X-Men cross over.

Finally, after Marvel made a comment about basically taking the year off from events with "Shadow Land". I felt insulted by that. They made it out to be an event, it was an event and I enjoyed it. But to essentially say it was nothing. Skipping "Fear Itself" was a bit of a challenge just because I always read the annual event. But I don't care for Thor, I skipped the buy and downloaded the book. I won't be reading any more of that series.

This can't be stressed enough. If you don't like something, stop buying it. You really do vote with your wallet and if you buy a book it means you approve of it.

I don't really haven many problems with modern comics, aside from the price... I wish every title would go down to $2.99, save me afew bucks. And companies thinking they have to have a major event EVERY year. I admitingly like the events, but I don't think we need to have a new one going on every year, I would love to see DC & Marvel go a year or two with-out any big events. You know, just let the heros chillax in their own books for awhile... and give readers wallets a break, lol.

-Quesada seems to view fans with extreme cynicism. One of my sister's friends went to a panel Quesada was on at a convention (the one in Pittsburgh, I think) a few years ago and he said an audience asked Quesada who he thought would win a fight between Spider-Man and the Hulk. Instead of declining to answer nicely (like saying, for example, that he liked to leave those kind of quandries to the readers), he made a crack about the kid not being able to get dates. What a *****ey thing to say to someone who spent their time and money to come see you.

Other things:
-That the editors at Marvel think they have to put Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, or Thor in every book in order for it to sell. I was pretty excited for the new Moon Knight series, but my interest plummeted when it was revealed he had multiple personalities of bigger characters.
-That Marvel and DC seem hell-bent on punishing people who collect books in trade. They would probably sell more books if they put the paperback volumes out quicker, but they have to hard-sell people into buying the issues or hardcovers.

Quesada had to deny watching tentacle rape in his spare time. He really has no room to talk about success with the opposite sex. :o

I hate crossovers between X-Men and the rest of Marvel, or Fantastic Four's alien stuff. It just makes my boy Punisher's quest to kill off the mob seem pretty irrelevant when Galactus is bearing down on the planet.

Moreso, when Mutants exist, EVERYONE has superpowers. You can't go down the block without running into a mutie or some low-powered mini-villain.

I think Marvel would be well off making a new universe and only allowing a few marquee superheroes to exist in it, a la MCU.

That'd be a horrible idea. No offense.

You sacrifice the essence of the F4 just to prop the Punisher up? What is this I don't even...? If anything they should just take the Punisher out of the 616. He's better off as MAX only anyway.

And there is only a few hundred muties left anyway.

I always figured that Punisher stuck to direct crime that he could handle instead of "the greater good." Taking out mob bosses and the occasional super baddie is up his alley, but he's not going to go after Dr. Doom because it's too high up for him. Pretty much the ideal street level hero.

I have.......No words.....

A cop's quest to bring a murderer to justice seems pretty irrelevent in a world with genoice and wars and nuclear weapons, except for the fact that it isn't.

I hope one day, people come to their senses and realize that the Punisher is a joke.

I really like The Punisher when he's a supporting character in Daredevil stories. Matt and Frank play off each other well. Otherwise I have no use for him.

Except when written by Ennis and Aaron.

Also, The Punisher as a giant zombie monster fighting a man in steam punk armor was awesome.

Garth Ennis' Punisher does little for me.

Well yea, he should **** off out of the 616 and stick to MAX then. MAX is the only place he's been worthwhile anyway.

I mean seriously, someone has the gaud to want the F4 and other staples of the Marvel Universe downplayed or removed from the universe altogether so Frank Castle, of all people, doesn't get overshadowed? Seriously?!!?

I mean don't get me wrong, I liked some of Ennis' MAX run and I've enjoyed Aaron's run. But seriously... come on.

I hope I don't sound like a prude for saying this but, what drives me nuts about comic books is the women with costumes that are so tiny that their bare asses hang out. I guess there's guys who think this is sexy, but to me these women look like morons. If I want to see characters walk around with no pants on, I'll just watch some Porky Pig cartoons.

Yeah, Porky is notorious for walking around without pants on, him and Howard the Duck have been getting into trouble for that for years and years. I guess if it was someone who looked like Van Williams walking around without his pants on you wouldn't have as much of a problem with them.

Tha...tha....tha...thaaa.....thaaaa......thaaaaaat....thaaaaattttt's alll folks!
