So as we all know, The Blackest Night, the final part of Geoff Johns' epic Green Lantern run is revving up very nicely in the books now and it's promising to be every bit as awesome as we've been led to believe but what about afterwards?
Although we know that John's is gonna be staying on for a little while afterwards to wrap up loose ends, it's pretty safe to say he'll be leaving once he does so...
SO! The question is... What do you want after he goes? Who do you want to take over the reins and what direction do you want to see them take the characters?

I've been thinking about this and although there are a few worthy successors, I'm gonna go with Robert Kirkman!
I've been reading his Invincible series recently and it's friggin' great! Every page of it perfectly demonstrates an inherent knowledge of what makes Superhero comics WORK. This guy knows how to write stories that are smart, exciting and quite funny.
For those of you unfamiliar with Invincible, He's also written/created The Walking Dead, The Irredeemable Ant-Man, Marvel Zombies and Astounding X-Men.

As for the story direction, it's no secret on the Lantern Boards that i'm a supporter of bringing Evil Star back. I'm assuming Sinestro is more than likely gonna die at the end of Blackest Night. Hal's gonna need a new Big Bad... Traditionally, the second in line is Evil Star.
And with the name drop in the most recent issue of Green Lantern about "The dictatorship of Evil Star" it almost feels like the reason Johns has so noticeably avoided such a Big GL character is because maybe he felt he had to leave something for the writer that followed him...

So. What would you do, folks?

Well, I do not know about after Blackest Night but I'm almost sure G.Johns will still be on the book. What make you think he would leave ?
He has said that he wanted to stay on it for a while, he has even more idea beyond Blackest Night. And quite honestly, I hope he will stay on GL for a long, long time.
Abou what I would want after BN ..... hmmmm I do not know, except for Evil star, like you.
I think more Sinestro would not hurt, and I defenitely want to see more of Atrocitus, Mongul, Hank Henshaw, and Carol Ferris.
I think he has plans for Hector Hammond. I despise this character but I believe G.Johns loves him so I suppose we will see more of him soon.
I honestly have not many idea because he has already written about numerous subect that I considered important. the difference is that I would have preferred more developement with Rage of the Red Lantern or Agent Orange.

Yeah, Johns'll be staying on til' issue #55... That's how much he has plotted but i'm assuming after that he'll leave the book like he did with his recent big JSA run.
The main question is who do you want to take over afterwards and why?

I like your Hammond idea. Johns' is definitely up to something with him... Remember the end of issue #6?

Only a matter of time before Hammond something... And it's more than likely gonna be great!

I picked up Green Lantern Corps issues 24-36.

I really want to get into Blackest Night. Maybe I should pick up Green Lantern then?

Provided Blackest Night ends with a cliffhanger...

A single massive issue called BRIGHTEST DAY
Where Alan Scott gets one of every ring and becomes the ... WHITE LANTERN!!
And defeats a manifestation of all the combined forces of the Black Lantern Corps...

naaah... too creative/obvious for DC

I feel you are sarcastic but I do not find your idea "too creative" for DC especially not for G.Johns, but I find it completely predictable from every Alan Scott fan, no offense. It is always the same thing : Alan is the best, he can beat anyone, he is the badass, he has the bad attitude, he can beat Hal, yada yada yada. I always thought he was a jerk. Your idea is not bad I think, but it sounds unrealistic to have suddenly Alan Scott saving the day against all the different bad corps when Guy, Kyle, Hal, and John have been in the torment for some time now. All of sudden Alan against "all the combined forces" of evil, and winning. I find it crappy.
I hope John Stewart is the "white Lantern" , if "white Lantern" there is.
Hey Wesley, are you sure about this ? I heard the contrary, that he planned to stay a long time after Blackest Night.
I also remember the end of the arc with the star Sapphires in their cave looking for ALL the rings. Something there too.
About Hammond, I do not know. I do not like him. We'll see.

Yeah, it's on Wikipedia. He has up until #55 plotted out. After that, Who knows?
I think he'll leave. This is what Johns does... He'll come on to a book, spend years writing an acclaimed run for it and then leave when it's time to move on.

And how come you don't like Hammond? He's so creepy and cool. Can't wait to see him for real in the movie... Maybe.

Johns did say a while back that he had everything plotted up until issue #55. But he's also said he intends to stay on Green Lantern for the forseeable future.

^Yeah, that is what I'm talking about, and I think if he plotted all of this, he had other ideas coming during those last 4 years, so I'm sure he will stay longer. And there are few clues here and there that he has ideas following BN.

Wesley, yeah I do not like Hammond a lot. I was interested in him in Secret Origins but the crappy head unable to move ... meh. I know he is powerful and all, but I find it poor. I do not see his potential. And above all I only perceive him as an terrestrial villain, when I think the villains of GL should be space-related-something.
Anyway, have you seen it ? Have you read the last issue of Green Lantern ? I told you there were mention of the Evil Star in agent Orange .. and now one has a glimpse of him.
The issue is about Black Hand and [BLACKOUT]one see what happened to him when the Kroloteans kidnapped him to make experiments on him (issue 5 or 6). There in the krolotean space ship a guy with a star-shaped head, in the shadow says "No, this one is useless, he has not the power I'm looking for. Let him go my gremlins ... my starlings"[/BLACKOUT]
Come on, this is the proof something with Evil Star is coming ! Just wanted to share it. :)
I do not believe wikipedia especially about things like this, I only trust the interviews. And If there is plans for Evil Star I think it means G.Johns stays.

Big stories about Evil Star and Hector Hammond, and then, the big saga "Brightest Day".

On the contrary, I think the brightest day was the resurection of Hal and the Corps. I think G.Johns should continue with the rest of the sentence : "no evil shall escape my sight" . More or less what we got now with the Guardians and the Alpha Lanterns. And write an arc about "beware my power".
More or less, the direction I feel he is heading to.

geoff johns and ivan reis on
"No Evil Shall Escape My Sight"
back to normal hector hammond, evil star, the shark.........

I thought about it, and while re-reading my books I was thinking that G.Johns may not leave until he is done with what he has begun, and the book is full of small hints here and there : for instance, the Evil Star stuff, but I think we can consider the trial of Sinestro too. That would be awesome. and I think the story about the massacre of sector 666 would be a good plan too.

there is a lot to do outside of the GL themselves : what was the empire of Tears before the massacre, how the Manhunters came to be, etc ...

After the release of Blackest Night 3 that included a much needed significant appearance by [BLACKOUT]The Indigo Tribe[/BLACKOUT], I definitely want to see a good history/story that explains the ins and outs of their creation. I am really hoping [BLACKOUT]the Atom[/BLACKOUT] gets inducted into their "corps".

I'd also like to see some more stories that include the corpse. That'd be nice.

Hey everyone long time lurker first time poster:
This idea has me really excited and I agree an Evil Star story could be massive! What I am wondering is how Johns is going to approach Evil Star, seeing from what he does with other villains he has a way of maintaining all their history instead of just retconning it out of existence but sort of reassembles the villains to the point where they are fully realized.
My question is what specific things could be an interesting new storyline for Evil Star?
(This is of course with a huge grain of salt seeing as we have no idea where the characters will be by the end of Blackest Night but I just wanted to get the ball rolling on some possible cool ideas.)

also just a small question- does anyone know why the kroloteans have seemed to replace the original starlings? or are they one in the same? I was kind of confused

After Blackest Night they should do a Green Lantern Rebirth on
Kyle Rayner who is dead now.

Ah I dunno I just read the new GL Corps today and while I am upset that they did that with Kyle I have a feeling like it is something that will be resolved by the end of Blackest Night rather than saving it for another Rebirth.

I am just hoping the way they solve this makes some sort of sense within the story,
possibly through the blue lanterns or some unseen force that has protected kyle during what he the explosion and it just might seem like he died. One way to solve this may be because the explosion was from the battery it was all willpower and there could be a loophole about some tie Kyle has to the battery

Though it is very unlikely:csad:

I am having that same feeling. The Blue Lanterns needed a Green Lantern in order to be able to use their rings. Maybe Kyle (or his spirit) will suffice.

Yeah I could see something like that. I really wish it just didn't happen at all to be honest. I think the did it an a great heroic and very cool moment, but I am almost more pissed because I know they'll bring him back and it always feels to me that it takes away more and more from the significance of when a huge character dies.

Now I'm starting to think
that kyle is really dead, not just his heart stopping for a moment. But that what we will get isn't Blue Lantern Rayner but White Lantern Rayner. I can see it happening at the very climax of Blackest Night when our powers combine and here comes the big Deu ex Machina White Lantern who effortlessly wipes out the Black Lanterns
:whatever:

Also anybody else read the new Blackest Night REBELs issue?

I was really impressed with the story for one but also there is the introduction already for a possible new villain in the works that could be a possible future threat after Blackest Night ends.
This character is Starro the Conqueror who appears to be leading or has been the big bad behind the Starro creatures for quite some time
Personally I think it seems like they might be setting him up to be the next in line for the GLC, although I really hope the next huge, hopefully Johns, event is dealing with Evil Star. It does seem a little crowded if they have two star themed villains that have nothing really in common which might be visually confusing.

I think Kyle will be alive again in some capacity before the end of Blackest Night.

yeah me too. Im wondering in what capacity but I just hope that they start taking this whole death and ressurection of heroes thing more seriously. By this I mean explaining why it is so convenient they can seemingly so often cheat death. Recently I heard someone suggest that Nekron could've done something decades earlier that forever changed the rules of death since then its been easier to bend its rules i.e. superman hal and ollie being able to come back. This IMO would be a sufficient and much needed explanation.
