The Jump The Shark used to be a great source for critiquing and learning about television history. But it all went downhill once Jon Hein, the founder of jumptheshark.com, sold out to TV Guide. For some time, things for the most part, remained the same. But a week or so ago, I checked in and noticed that the site became a completely barebones shell of its former self. To put things in proper perspective, it was as if it went from a common fan blog to just another run-of the-mill gossip site. Any sense of idenitity or punch has been completely striped in favor of a basic corporate agenda (to be as "politically correct" as remotely possible). Not that it matters much, but in the mean time, I've set up a Yahoo! club:

I haven't been to jumptheshark.com in a while, but god damn! I can't even find its content. I see the categories listed at the top, but when I clicked on "Never Jumped," all I got was a quick blurb ["A category reserved for the best of the best of TV – the shows you would defend to the end. (note: this is a hotly-debated category best left minimalist)"], followed by a single article about whether Lost is "time-jumping the shark."

I think John Hein went to work with Howard Stern at Sirius. That website sucked, though.

bonethefish can go to hell. You spammed me through private messages. You spammed my blog's comments section.

I'm now refusing to visit your site now. And I liked JumpTheShark.

So it's safe to say that JumpTheShark . . . "jumped the shark?"

Jump The Shark literally Jumped the Shark when Jon Hein sold it to TV Guide.com, which is....Owned by Rupert Murdoch of FOX. Like TV Guide before it JTS became a pale shadow of its former self and now is just focused on celebrites and their nonsense and not the content they provide. Once that site went down I just went to IMDB or here at SHH to rip shows and celebrities a new one.

Just because JTS is gone doesn't mean shows won't get ripped. There's a ton o' boards and blogs where ahows get torn a new one....:hehe:

"Jump The Shark" has become an analog phrase in a digital world, true believers. It's totally outdated. It's now referred to as "Pulling an NBC".

-so sayeth the mastermind-

I believe "Jump The Shark" turned into "Nuke The Fridge".

I believe "Jump The Shark" turned into "Nuke The Fridge".

I think "Nuked the Fridge" was intended to be used for movie franchises (it started with Indiana Jones 4) more than tv series. But I haven't heard someone say "Jumped the Shark" in years, so maybe it could take over.

i would add hereos.man this gotten afwul. i own the first two seAONS. I NEVER REALLY WATCHED THE THIRD.

John Hein got a few million from TV Guide which has done nothing with it.

He's happy working for Howard and doing an excellent job
