What next for the WWE, does it have a reason to exist?

You just want wrestling shut down because you don't like it.

I think it's silly and pointless and promotes the use of steroids, all true. If it stopped promoting the use of steroids, bullying etc. would I have a problem with it. No? It's only pro wrestling I have a problem with. I see the point of competitive real wrestling.

I watched wrestling on and off from about 5-25 years old, I'll still occasionally turn it on and never thought about using steriods and wasn't a bully, many of my friends watched it too and the same holds true. Your arguments are your prejudgices against the promotion, I find it incredibly hard to believe that kids would watch wrestling then go out and find steroids or bully someone, actually most of the bullies I knew didn't watch wrestling and made fun of kids who did watch it.

Looks like Whirly's logic just went down the toilet.

Yes the above posters posting of his experiences at school certainly prove my arguments illogical:rolleyes: At least congress doesn't think so.

:)

There is one huge factor why I don't like the wwe or raslin anymore.
I grew up and need more and the whole thing is dead boring.
I mean seriously, wtf is up with the story lines?
And the WWE having no competition doesn´t make it any better.
Gone are the days of the WCW rivalry when we had the rock and stone cold and ect ect.

:whatever:

Basically having good guy vs. bad guy promotes bullying? Basically the movies that we watch are promoting the use of steroids, violence, and bullying? There is a wrestler on the WWE named CM Punk who is straight-edge, meaning he doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, nor does he do any kind of drugs(cocaine, steroids, and so forth).

Because of him it's inspired me to remain clean in my life and better myself as a person both physically, mentally, and spiritually. So your theory of it promoting bullying, steroids, and other insane claims are thrown out of the window right now.

I just agreed with amazingfantasy.
Other than that, I was talking about Kennedy being Mr. McMahon's son and Jericho coming back. Not arguing with Whirly.

Whirly, like so many wrestling detractors, is on a misguided mission against the wrestling business. Every objection to pro wrestling has been raised about comic books and other fantasy media. That's what led to the comics code in the '50s and many of those objections persist today. The problem with people who want to censor one type of entertainment is that they don't understand that censorship doesn't work that way. If you object to something being on TV, realize that your standards can be applied to other shows/media and there are groups, like the Parents Television Council, that WILL come after the things you like. In this case, if we say WWE must cease to exist because they feature characters who's real life counterparts have abused steriods, then so too must that standard be applied to Marvel & DC movies which have featured Lou Ferrigno, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone, all of whom have used performance enhancing drugs. And if we stay on that line of thinking, I say good luck to anyone who wants to find a movie that isn't connected with an actor, writer, director who hasn't had some type of substance abuse problem.

To you, Last Sunrise, I say bravo. I have been SXE my whole life and you will certainly avoid many, many problems by following it's tenets. Keep it up!

I just don't understand the appeal to older people. Kids I can understand, because it is fun to watch as a kid watching this clown bounce around the ring getting his ass kicked. I enjoyed it as a kid. But I grew out of it. Just before high school I was pretty much done with it. It was just pointless. By that time you pretty much know that none of it really matters, the story lines don't matter and a lot of the time they aren't even good or entertaining in the least. Don't get me wrong, the hits they take are real, you need to be extremely tough both mentally and physically in order to do that kind of work day in day out. For that I always will give respect to wrestlers.

Like its been said over and over, it truly is a men's soap opera. And its just as dumb as women soap operas. Some women get hooked on them and others just have to stare in awe as to how and why. Same thing with men. Its not the same thing as a TV series or movie.

I'll watch when SCSA makes a guest appearance for nostalgia sake. Same thing for if the rock ever comes back.

Wrestling is, in effect, a real life comic book. It features idealized characters in fantastic struggles of will. There are many intricate in-ring details, storyline developments and packaging points that make a successful show. That is very similar to comics and comic book movies.

out of all of their champions, onle one looks like he's on steroids, so...****

They all look like they are on steroids and might makes right certainly supports and promotes bullying.

Bullying (i would define as someone who is picking on someone who is weaker, smaller, or not capable of defending themselves. I do not see that presented when I watch wrestling. as far as storylines go..most of it is I don't like you, you don't like me....let's fight...contract signing...some more tangles....then the actual match. Whirly, as much as I understand your position on this by virtue of your occupation, as I'm sure it would be tons easier if wrestling wasn't around, it isn't something that is going away. it is too much of a cash cow for alot of people. as far as reform, i'm all for tougher drug testing, counseling programs, even an off season, as being on the road 50 weeks out of the year is damn ridicolous

Just don't argue with him.
Seriously, look at the way he sloppily bumped the thread.
He's looking for an argument.

Guess we should ask if any sport truly has a reason to exist then. Might makes right is certainly the "point" of football, if you're team is stronger and faster than the other team you'll win. The whole point is to tackle players, holy $#!t, I think I'll tackle someone on my way home. Next person I see with an iPhone I'll just tackle them and try to strip it from them, it's okay though because football players have been promoting tackling and striping people of what they want (the football) my whole life.

Cars and alcohol kill more people than pro wrestling ever could. I don't see you calling for an end to car shows or beer commericials.

Not what's being argued. Do lot's of pro wrestlers die due to drugs? Yes!
Do lot's of pro wrestlers engage in the use of Drugs? Yes!
Does Pro Wrestling promote unsavoury themes? In my opinion.. Yes!
Do these themes have a negative affect on society? Yes in my opinion!
Is wrestling a sport? No!
Is watching men assaulting women etc. a good thing for kids? Not in my book?
Is a show that portrays the idea it's O.K. to jump guys from behind as an honour thing? Not in my book. Has teen violence in the U.K. and U.S. gone up? Yes! Is the WWE a syptom or a cause? I don't know! Is it negative. In my opinion yes.

I'd say some....

Does Pro Wrestling promote unsavoury themes? In my opinion.. Yes!

so does network TV and Hollywood....they market to kids as well

Do these themes have a negative affect on society? Yes in my opinion!

Anyone who considers wrestling a barometer on societal behavior needs to be shot. It only has an affect on people who don't know any better. Parents should be monitoring what their kids watch.

Is wrestling a sport? No!

It's marketed as sports entertainment...even as a fan i don't and never have considered it a sport.

Is watching men assaulting women etc. a good thing for kids? Not in my book?

They are called parents...see above point

Is a show that portrays the idea it's O.K. to jump guys from behind as an honour thing? Not in my book. Has teen violence in the U.K. and U.S. gone up? Yes!

Once again.....PARENTS.

Is the WWE a syptom or a cause? I don't know! Is it negative. In my opinion yes.

As I grew up, my parents and other adults in my life made me understand that certain behaviors are acceptable and certain things are not. When I would watch movies or TV and the subject matter was questionable....my mom or my dad would make sure I understood what I was watching was just TV and not jump off of buildings or hit girls.

Do lot's or celebrities and pro atheletes die due to drugs? Yes
Do lot's of celebrities and pro atheletes engage in the use of drugs? Yes
Does TV and Movies promote unsavoury themes? Yes and you could make a case that pro sports also promote unsavoury themes as well (i.e. Barry Bonds home run "record")
Do these themes have a negative affect on society? Not necessarilary because most people have a brain and realize it's not real, like wrestling
Is pro wrestling a sport? Has it ever claimed to be?
Is watching men assaulting women etc. on TV, in comic books, video games and movies a good thing for kids? It's make believe, a good parent will teach their children the difference.
Is a show that portrays the idea it's O.K. to jump guys from behind as an honour thing a good thing? The announcers usually deride these activities, so it's not being portrayed as O.K.
Has teen violence gone up in the U.K. and the U.S. gone up because of wrestling? According to most groups it's violent video games, movies, TV shows and heavy metal music that has caused this increase, not wrestling.
