The Amazing Spider-Man What should the poster look like?

I think they should go the route of the early james Bond posters and the indiana Jones posters by having hand drawn images of the key characters in dramatic poses. All this photoshop nonsense that studios come up with these days are so uninspired and pale in comparisson to the average joe who creates one in about 2mins on a site such as this.

I like both ideas.

I've notice that they never use real pictures of people/places/action shots in posters, why is that?

A series of posters recreating classic Spider-Man panels or covers.

Yeah, the first cover I thought of that I'd like to see used for a movie poster is issue 135 of ASM. Just have the movie's main villan in the space at the bottom that the Punisher is in, with similar shots of the supporting cast in action in the other sections, Jonah ranting etc

I mean, fat chance we will get a comicbook cover used directly as an inspiration, but it could be a good idea to seperate it from so many other bland movie posters.

edit: The 1st SM movie poster was fine, as it showed everyone what they wanted to see, what this live action Spidey looked like in the flesh, simple clear shot of him crawling up a wall.

The 2nd with a close up of him swinging away with Mj was bland, no Ock, which was rubbish as he is a very powerful visual as a villan. The Ock poster was very good for this reason.

the 3rd spider-man poster with him in the suit on the church was perfect, I oredered the SE dvd with that cover online after I bought the normal one, just for that cover. The other posters with Spidey swinging by the building and looking at his arm becoming black were pretty boring ultimately. I would have went with the movie image of him hanging upside down looking at himself in the window as the swinging one looked a bit awkward.

Keep it simple, but have something going on that is not too busy. that's why i like that cover as a basis, you have the central image of the new Spider-man in the centre, which will be a given for the new poster, but you can have other things going on in the background that force people to take a closer look.

Yeah, the Alex Ross paintings for the opening credits of 2 are almost the Spidey versions of those type of Star Wars/indy Jones/Bond posters. They would be great, but with this re-boot I doubt they are going to go with something they might deem 'old fashioned', folk are going to want to see what the new Spider-man looks like, and they are going to want to show him off in the poster.

I wouldn't want Alex Ross as the artist though

Issue 140 would work very well to that end, too.

I always thought that comic book movie posters should imitate how dynamic comic book covers are. Instead they always give us dramatic/moody posters.

Something like this maybe. And thanks for the responses! Sorry for the size!

That spidey vs lizard as a stylised poster drawn how the characters would look in the movie would be awsome to say the least.

I maybe wrong here but I dont think any move has really totally mimicked its comic counterpart yet. It would be awesome to start off this Spiderman reboot right and use the Amazing Fantasy 15 cover but translate it to real life and onto a poster...that would really set the marketing on fire...everyone would want that poster instantly...its like if Nolan goes with The Dark Knight Returns for Batman 3 and uses that iconic lightning cover from TDKR 1 graphic novel....so many possibilities....if they have tried this in the past its obviously failed because im a comic and movie fan and I cannot remember a one...

Yes we do.

I am still thinking that it would be cool for the posters to be influenced by comic covers. Maybe a recreation of AF#15 would be too much. Ah, who am I kidding. That would most likely rock.
