It's a little awkward to admit that you hadn't heard X great song before in your life until some film was kind enough to expose you to it. Awkward... but no less true. Judging by the countless "So and so film brought me here!" comments on Youtube, I can't be the only one. No judging here. My list:

"Space oddity" by David Bowie I listened for the 1st time in the Canadian film C.R.A.Z.Y., about an 80's teen who questions his sexuality (I'd heard it in Friends before that, sung by Chandler, but not the real thing).

"You make my dreams come true" by Hall & Oates,
"Please please please" by The Smiths
... and pretty much all the songs in (500) Days of Summer I discovered through said film.

Up until last month when I watched Edgar Wright's The World's End I'd never heard this awesome thing.

"Sweet child of mine" by the Guns N' Roses (cover by Sheryl Crow, though) in Big Daddy starring Adam Sandler. See, this is where it gets embarrassing.

"No way down" by The Shins in The Amazing Spider-Man

"Immigrant song" by Led Zeppelin in School of Rock

Ugh, too many to count.

Nightcall by Kavinsky from Drive

Queen's "Princes of the Universe" from Highlander. But it's made for the movie, right?

Another big one: "Dance the night away" by Van Halen, Argo.

These Eyes - Superbad

The main theme to Phantom Of The Opera via the film of the same name, the one with Emmy Rossum.
