Continuity and Canonicity play key to the success of a comic book to movie transition.
So here is how i feel the X-Men Movie Universe should of reflected...
> Young James Howlett discovers his father has been killed by the gardener Logan, in rage discovers his bone claws and kills his gardener learning he is his real father. He leaves with Victor Creed and the two end up fighting in a few wars....
> World War 2 - An American special force group rescue Eric Lenshire from a concentration camp, part of that team is James Howlett, Victor Creed, Steve Rogers and Bucky... at the rescue camp Young Eric Lenshire meets a Young Magda...
> Vietnam War - Frank Castle is the only survivour of his mission which he succeeds however becomes underfire, he is rescued by Nick Fury who offers him a role with the newly formed S.H.E.I.L.D unit, Frank's mission was to find data on what new weapon the enemy has, they find out its a Mutant... Nick Fury is then charged with putting together a special team consisting of people with special abilities. This includes James Howlett, Victor Creed, Eric Lenshire and Cain Marko - there mission is a success but the party is split James and Victor are rescued by helicopter however James and Victor are blamed and sentanced to death, they survive but are offered to join Weapon X. Cain is missing in action and Eric is taken by medical helicopter to a M.A.S.H Style medical unit - Eric is then treated by Dr.Charles Xavier - when the medical camp is raided by the enemy Charles Xavier and Eric reveal there powers and decide to work together however Eric's Magnetic powers causes Charles Xavier to cause a psionic wave that kills everyone in an onslaught of mental power.
> After the war - Charles Xavier becomes a Professor and marries Moria McTaggart. Eric goes in search of his lost love Magda only to find no trace of her.
> Remy LeBeau and Bella Donna Boudreaux enter in a Romeo and Juliet kind of relationship - to which ends with them taking the sides of there families the thieves guild and the assisins guild. Gambit then flees New Orleans for Vegas where upon learning a few fancy card tricks also meets a Dr.Nathaniel essex who upgrades his mutant ability to help fight off the assisns guild. Gambit returns to New Orleans.
> Professor Xavier and Eric Lenshire decide to run a school for gifted mutants, build cerebro to control his power to stop an onslaught. Find Henry McCoy, rescues a young mystique and invites a young Jean Grey to come to the school.
> James Howlett quiets weapon x, they come after him - James is twisted into getting metal claws, escapes - meets Gambit in New Orleans for some reason, returns to weapon X, he fights all of weapon x -free captive kids who find there way to professor x.... (Havent seen the leak but i read about the whole professor x turning up on here.) guessing by pictures from the trailer, Cyclops, Storm and Jason Stryker escape and rescued by Xavier. Oh and wolverine somehow loses his memory.
> Professor Xavier and Eric Lenshire struggle to manage the mutants at the school with difference of oppinions starting to cause problems. Eric on his journy to find Magda discovers she was killed because some anti mutant group discovered she had two mutant children... Eric furious with Human kind decides humanity needs to be taught a lession, However he knows that xaviers dream would get in the way so he uses Jason Stryker to turn the x-men inside out a split is formed leaving Eric to become Magneto and he takes some of his loyal students with him, Mystique, Toad, possibly Jason too. Professor X realises the problem needs a solution and so forms the x-men... which features a young Cyclops, Storm, Jean, and Beast.
> Wolverine after wondering aimlesses and clueless of who he is finds himself in antartica helping a small eskimo village, however when a tanker that is passing through with illegal drugs causes chaos Wolverine reveals his claws and fights only to find leading the tanker is a pre-Cyber who is transporting the goods to a mysterious corporation in Japan... Cybe recognises Wolverine from weapon x... being that Cyber used to be a member but quit to go mercenary. Wolverine follows Cyber to Japan to discover who he possibly is, Wolverine discovers the weapon x technology was designed by a Silver Samuri - a mob boss who controlls advanced technology. Samuri is attempting to make his own weapon x which is what the illegal drug is for. Wolverine soon teams up with a sunfire, a mutant working for a special police force trying to bring down the silver samuri. Samuri then makes Cyber into his own weapon x soldier and a fight between wolverine and cyber occures. Wolverine wins and also takes down samuri only to discover that the weapon x project has been in place for years and has been worked on around the world. The latest creation lies with Hydra. So Wolverine heads to Russia to find the Hydra unit.
> Deadpool movie occures - He is captured by a freaky re-invention of Mojo, an obese showman who has hired an island for humans to hunt mutants. Deadpool teams up with Longshot, Dazzler and a few other familure names as they face Mojo worlds greats players, Arcade, Gauntlett, Spiral and Garrison Cain. in a fight for survival.
> Young angel discovers he has wings as such his father starts working on a cure, Gambit is ordered to steal the cure for Nathaniel Essex for unknown reason.
> Wolverine finds himself facing off against Hydra, where they face him off against a failed experiment, Omega Red... all this as a test to gain DNA from the only succesful weapon x. Hydra then fake there own demise but leads Wolverine back to his home in Canada... However wolverine tries to retrace his steps which leads him back to the eskimo village. However Sabretooth had tracked him down, Sabretooth too has radically changed, his memory has also been wiped and his mutation has caused him to look more like his X-Men 1 counterpart. Sabretooth is employed by Hydra who captured stryker during investigation into the weapon x programe. Stryker who is being controlled much simular to how he controlls magneto later in x-men 2 give Hydra all the information on Weapon X, but Hydra would need Wolverines DNA to create the perfect Weapon. Sabretooth was sent by Hydra who has wiped his memory and made him a mindless feral drone to get ride of the original weapon x... Wolverine. the fight occures but is stopped by Department H who someone rescue Wolverine. Sabretooth wereabouts is left unknown. as Department H conduct there own investigations, Hydra unleashes there own Weapon X... which is the new and improved Omega Red, the fight occures causing alot of damage, Wolverine manages to kill Omega Red and take down Hydra with the help of Department H. Wolverine frees the captives in Hydra including Stryker who he has no knowlege of. Stryker steals in research from Hydra and escapes. Department H then tells wolverine to leave Canada to which he agree's and heads to Alaska.
> Stryker rebuilds his weapon x facility and discovers the wearabouts of his son Jason working with Magneto, learning of magneto;s history he then begins to wonder what xavier is building in his house.
> Magneto still greaving for Magda heads to Wondagor a place where Magda lived after Eric went to war in vietnam, He's still investigating why she died and who the two children she had were. Whilst in Wondagor he discovers the Herbert Edgar Wyndham a signtest who is working on Evolution, he tells Magneto of a device that could transfer all humans into mutants but would need a powerful mutant like himself to power it. Magneto then realises that he can help make Xaviers dream unnecessary if everyone was a mutant so Magneto works along side Wyhdam in creating the device. During his time in wondagor Magneto also meets a dazzled memoryless Sabretooth who had been captured, Magneto free's him and offers him to join his brotherhood.
> With the brotherhood activity at a low, Beast leaves the x-men to join the goverment.
> The events of X-Men 1 occure
> Between x-men 1 & 2 because of Magneto's stunt the attention towards mutants grow causing several mutants to go into hiding being known as the Morlocks.
> The events of X-Men 2 occure
> During x-men 2 xaviers find all mutants causes hank to transform into blue beast.
> The events of X-Men the last stand game occure

> It is discovered that Jamie Madrox was not involved directly with the brotherhood and that a Dupe of himself robbed banks and joined the brotherhood. Jamie Madrox is freed by Detective Bishop to form X-Factor Investigations in the heart of Mutant Town.
> X-Men 4 - Legacy
The cure mutates into a virus that is targeting all mutants, the epidemic causes a quarrenteen, The X-Men consisting of Wolverine, Storm, Iceman, Colossus, Shadow Cat and Angel investigate, Gambit is re-introduced now in his 30's working with Sinister who unleashed the virus to weed out all the weak mutants. As a result most of the morlocks get infected and die, Pyro discovers he is infected and plees for help from the x-men who investigate the area, The x-men face off against sinisters Maurders who are sent in to clean up the mess. Angel loses his wings however Rogue given back her powers by Sinister, via Gambits influence. the end result leaves the x-men distrauth. Moria finds a cure for it just in time however Colossus sacrifies himself to spread the antibodies across the world. Gambit joines the X-Men to help fight Sinister who manages to escape.
> X-Men 5 - Future Past
We learn of the goverments plans to release a sentinal programe, this happens when Detective Bishop starts to get psyhic visions of the future, He is lead to the hellfire club who influence him that the x-men are the cause, however the hellfire was at one time working with Mr Sinister for the eventual goal of mutant domination. Although Sinister no longer works for with them the hellfire club seek to profit in away they can even if it means selling out there own mutants. Meanwhile De-winged angel excepts an offer from Sinister to regrow his wings.
> X-Men 6 - Rise of Apocalpyse
With the future pretty much mapped out, Sinister releases Apocalpyse via the horsemen which consist of Archangel, Bishop, Rogue and Sinister himself. All brainwashed into thinking they will bring peace to the world. The X-Men get help from ressurected Charles Xavier who tranfered his mind into Brian Xavier his brothers unoccupied body. Xavier becomes onsluaght persona to fight Apocalpyse and with the help of the x-men manage to undo all he worked against and put im back in his dormant sleep. We also learn that Jean Grey and Cyclops fate was not over...
> X-Men Origins: Cable
The story centers on Cable, a mutant born on genosha with unsure past, it is the future, mutants are minimal, dying breed and Cable has been charged to find out why they are dying out. basically he is like wolverine as he doesnt know his past where he came from...etc. Cable embarks on a journey to discover who he is and why he was given the nickname Cable...being a linked through time. The story evolves around what happend at alkali lake, jean thought she killed cyclops but the truth was she transported him to Genosha, Cyclops is in a coma in there hospital during the events of x-men 3. When Jean Grey Dies we learn it was psychically done to make you believe she was dead, Juring the alcatraz phoenix psychic out she discovers that Cyclops is alive and fakes her own death via Wolverine. In reality she just killed the phoenix problem in her mind. Phoenix in a last act of good will transport Jean to Genosha to find scott. but this tranport leaves people with amenisa and too Jean is unsure who she is an adopts the name Redd. where she meets Slimm who is amesia cyclops. Both become freedom fighters for mutants during the mutant war that Cable was brought up in. We learn of Redd and Slims adventures to fight the cause against the mutant registration act, and the mysterious circomstantces behind Cables birth. at the end Cable meets an Aged wolverine who explains that Cable is the last link to the past that kept the whole mutant saga alive.
And so that would be how the x-men stories should appear.
