What was the point of the scene with the two cops in Watchmen? I think that was the most pointless scene ever.

The transition of the Minutemen photo in Rorchach's hand to Niteowl's wall in the theatrical cut was far smoother.

Really, what was the point of the scene?

i think people would want to know how Rorschach magically got past the cops of a major crime scene

theatrical cut transition works better tho

instead of poof rorschach is going to visit dan

so he is spiderman and webbed out of window without any cops

realistic lol

quite honestly how the hell did this deserve a thread

Um... my guess is it sets up a basic premise about the real-world aspect of the story? The two cops talk about the Comedian right? The whole idea where they zoom out from the comics and we gaze across the city - it captures that whole feel of the events being bigger than normal and ordinary 'watchmen' (the cops are supposed to be our real heroes right? Well, in this world they're minute and inadequate). Similarly we see at the very end of the film another shot of two very ordinary, every-day characters, - the Editor and his assistant - to give it full circle. I dunno, that's my opinion. Hrrm.

dude, this should be in a DC forum WM thread(if it still exists).

i have seen the first 25mins or so of the DC, and fully agree, not only is it a pointless scene, but the way Rorschach escapes does not makes sense.
I also hated the extra adds to the Hollis Mason scene with the newsreport that reffered to it, and R and Dan talking about it in his kitchen.
tbh, i think all it was was to put in an extra bit of action early on for Rorschach, and to establish the cops were after him as we didn't get that convo at the start of the book between the cops discussing rorschach.

It shows how Rorschach is considered a myth to the rest of New York. Like the prowling boogy man hiding in the shadows.

Why don't we have a "Watchmen Hate Threads" Forum, where all the people who want to complain about the most miniscule details of this movie can verbally nail Snyder to a cross for the rest of eternity?

Just a thought.

This thread reminds me of that SNL cartoon where Pat O'Brien travels the world, asking everyone he can find, "WHAT WAS BRITNEY THINKING?"

lol I've given up on the Watchmen haters bragade. I understand that it wasn't everyone's cup of tea. I just laugh about the whole thing now.

same here i love it

my favorite film of 2009

all that matters to me

The Watchmen is one of the BEST adaptations to date! The only flaws were some of the fighting scenes but that's only because I -personally- hate stylized fights (ramping). But the movie itself stood out and I agree that it was one of the best films of 2009. Sad that people couldn't see beyond the word 'super hero' nearly 6 months after The Dark Knight taught them to.

I know what you mean. I have a couple friends who b**ch to no end about the film as well. Their complaints just floor me, like this one girl I know who said they made Dr. Manhattan "too much of a romantic sap when he's supposed to be scientific and analytical." I still wonder what movie she was watching. He WAS scientific and analytical... they just didn't beat you over the head with it because in a film, spewing technical jargon the way he does in the comic would have bored audience members to tears. As for him being a romantic towards Laurie... that's pretty much how he was in the comic. She's his last shot at maintaining his humanity.

I guess its just really irks me that Watchmen was the ONLY Superhero film that actually adapted a direct story from a comic book, instead of taking bits and pieces like they did with Batman, Spider-Man, etc. - and yet fans still complained that it was this horrible bastardization. It's just proof that fanboys are every bit the uptight, self-righteous dorks that The Big Bang Theory paints them to be.

What I never understood was the bashing towards Ozymindias. I loved him in the movie.

Yeah, I liked that actor in the role a lot. He is also very good playing a bad guy in a heist movie called 'The Lookout'.

My only real problem with Watchmen is the ending, it should have had more impact.
DrManhatten and Laurie appearing next to a big hole in the ground for 20secs doesn't convey the full horror of what has just happened.
They could have kept it like the book(without the squid) and had Laurie cracking up when she comes face to face with all the bodies lying around. It would have been real heavy, and maybe a bit gruesome, but that is the story they chose to tell.
It's just too clean in the movie, almost as if it never happened.

I liked him too, but quite a few people think he was too villainous from the get-go, making it obvious he was the bad guy.

I completely understand the complaints. The film may have adapted a direct story from the comics, and was very faithful in terms of the events that transpired, but the tone wasn't right, partly because of the over use of slow motion, partly because of how the fighting prowess of the characters was exaggerated, partly because of the incredibly cheesy soundtrack, and partly because there were scenes where it seemed obvious that the film makers didn't understand how certain scenes and lines of dialogue should be read, as well as either not understanding or not knowing how to properly convey some of the story's themes. Giving Dan his little angry speech at the end and giving the "nothing ever ends" line to Laurie in a conversation with Dan instead of Manhattan saying it to Adrian are good examples of the last complaint.

I thought that the actor did a good job as well. Did the actor look anything like the comicbook counterpart? No but he did a good job all the same. As for the characterization, I had no problem with it.

Yeah I thought Goode's portrayal was one of the best parts of the movie. Sure he looked nothing like the comic but he's probably my favorite part of the movie plus I love the fight scene at the end where he destroys Rorschach and Nite Owl. I will agree there is something about the ending that doesn't impact you the way it should. I'm really happy they went with no squid because I always though that the squid was stupid and it would have been worse on screen

The biggest thing that gets to me is that Dr. Manhattan doesn't tell Ozy "Nothing ever ends" instead of Sally telling Dan " I know what he would of said". I loved in the book Ozy's reaction to that comment, seeing one of if not the smartest man in the world be confused by a comment that made him even think further was awesome to me. I really enjoyed the movie but I really wish that last part hadn't changed.
