Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

It was fun and dumb in mostly all the right ways. It's probably more self aware than any of the Fast and Furious movies and it's by design because of David Leitch who worked on Deadpool 2 before. And because it's by David Leitch, his aesthetics are very prominent. This pretty much the The Rock/Statham action comedy hour and it's the thing that works the most in the film. Idris Elba is pretty much a GI Joe style villain and while he had some cool moments, it's ultimately sorta forgettable. Between Mission Impossible and this, Vanessa Kirby is pretty much born to be a big action star, I thought she was great. There are two cameos that caught me by surprise. I thought the first cameo really worked and I do hope they continue using that person in the future. The 2nd one felt like the whole movie stop just so this person can do a 5 minute stand up special. The action set pieces were great and for how illogical that last act was, I had fun with it. Overall, it's probably the best GI Joe film out there.

Replicas

Man, It took me 3 separate occasions of trying to finish this trash heap of a film. This felt like a first draft of a much better film about technology gone wrong and cloning. The story is obnoxiously linear to the point where there is zero mystery or intrigue. It's almost like they went out there way to not take interesting and nuanced turns. Not to mention there's plotholes and illogical moments at every other scene. It was a mistake to have Keanu Reeves to be a neuroscientist because you can't buy anything he says. The rest of the cast are just barely even characters. It's not until the 3rd act where it's goes from just bad to "This should be on HDTGM" bad. Despite the renaissance year for Keanu Reeves, Replicas reminds us that he still pick terrible projects and still has a limited range in acting. Overall, it's a turd on a stick for scifi films.

Once upon a time in Hollywood

bored out my mind until the 3rd act

Absolutely bonkers fun with two leads that play off each other really well, basically an 80's buddy action movie set in the present day and even more over the top. :D:

Long Shot

Genuinely one of the better romcoms in recent years. It's pretty much the reverse Pretty Woman if it was done in the style of Veep. Overall the cast did a great job and Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen had incredible chemistry with each other... as weird as it may look, you do buy their relationship. The comedy works just as well as the plot. I will say some parts doesn't really work at all like O'Shea Jackson jr who's just not good at ad libbing. Overall though, it's a solid romcom that should have gotten more love when it came out.

This is one of the very few times I want to see a Seth Rogan movie.
