Good Boys

It's Superbad lite for a new generation. While I don't think it's nearly as good as Superbad, they do have a lot of good moments throughout this. Whenever the movie focuses on the main three boys, it's usually hilarious. I don't think every joke landed but there's a pretty good hit ratio. Also, I thought Molly Gordon and Midori Francis who play the best friends were surprisingly good and have a solid amount of screen time. Overall, it's totally one of the better comedies this year, but that's not really saying much considering what we've had so far.

The Farewell

By far the most genuine and heartfelt movie of the year. It's got one of the most realistic family dynamics I've seen in a film in a long time. There's not a moment in here where they do something that felt didn't feel natural even with the seemingly absurd premise. Lulu Wang did a terrific job capturing generational and culture clash with the cast especially with Awkwafina's character. The movie might be somber at times, but it's also a hilarious comedy when it needs to be. They struck a really nice balance between the two. It's also shot and directed so extraordinarily well... It's filled with poetic shots and well timed moments. Overall, it's by far one of the best movies of the year and it's gonna be interesting to see where this falls during the Oscar season.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (extended)

It's been a while since I've revisited them... Absolute perfection.

10/10. I missed you, perfectly normal human wormbaby.

Incredibly underrated movie. One of my favorite movies starring Tom Hanks.
No one ever talks about it. It's the unknown Joel and Ethan Cohen and Tom Hanks film.

Hell yeah! Swayze's follow on to Roadhouse, and a very enjoyable film in its own right. Liam Neeson is great in this, too.
It doesn't hurt that Swayze, Neeson, and Paxton's characters are from Kentucky the same as me.

Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2.

I will make it through Animated August. I must!

First Blood
I forgot how powerful Sly's last monologue was.

THE ISLAND MONSTER (1954) A badly dubbed Italian movie that, because it stars the preeminent horror actor of the day (Boris Karloff), they give the movie a title that makes you think it is a horror film. It is instead a slow moving story of drug smuggling where the lead investigator's little daughter is kidnapped by the smugglers to get him off the case. To add insult to injury....Karloff's famous voice is dubbed by a drab actor.
