rating system :up::up: / :up: / :up::down / :down / :down:down

Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe
(2022) :up:

Hasn't missed a beat since the last movie.

The Card Counter (2021) :up:

The ending may make or break this drama movie starring Oscar Isaac as an ex-felon for a lot of people.

Thelma (2017) :up:

Interesting (is it psychological or supernatural? I won't spoil) thriller like Black Swan ( :up::up: ) but without the glam of a slick production or classic status.

The Princess (2022) :up::down

Mildly entertaining action movie shlock.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) :down

Disjointed and with boring exposition dumps...a chore of a first half but slightly better and more focused in the second half. In the bottom of the pile for the MCU with Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron and some others.

Wicked City (1987) :down:down

Beyond awful sex pervert anime movie masquerading as an action movie. Had no idea what I was getting into before it was too late.

Here in 2010 Pattinson already showed he was so much more promising actor than a teen throb of that Twilight nonsense, and I believe there was even more of that left to go at this point (?). Some sentimentality and maybe simple tropes, but still enjoyed this story and various performances (Pattinson, Brosnan, Olin and the kid playing his little sister). But goddamn that ending..

When the teacher wrote the day's date on the blackboard, and you realise today is 9/11.. And then watching Pattinson looking out of his dads office's window from the outside, and it's actually one of the Twin Towers (which we never learned from the other several occassions he was there). Damn..

Still one of the absolute superior dystopian flicks in modern era. Lots to love, one little thing is the easter egg to Pink Floyd's Animals album cover, while playing In The Court Of The Crimson King (yeah, by King Crimson lol). Fantastic showcase of classic art like David by Michelangelo and Guernica by Picasso as well.

Over all great characters, high tension/great chaotic action at times and some really emotional drama scenes. Owen's best performance (having to endure lots of long struggles running in frakking flip-flops as well lol) and of course Caine is up-Caining himself here:

- Pull my fingah!

Really enjoyed this. I used to say Ethan Hawke is underrated, but now he's just great IMO. The kid actors are very good as well, e.g the sibling ship beteween the protagonist and his little sister felt very natural and often very touching. It took me a while to figure out why the dad (Jeremy Davies) felt so annoyingly familiar, then I realised he had a recurring role in Lost, and he gave a great performance here as well.

This felt maybe more like a mystery thriller than a pure horror flick most of times, but that's fine by me. Also loved the circa late 70s setting, I'm ancient enough to've been around that age back then (Happy Days and Emergency was nice TV-show details, pure nostalgia). Nice use of On The Run by Pink Floyd close to the finale as well.

Keeping with Jackie Chan movies I watched the Foreigner (2017) for like the 3rd time I had forgotten a lot of it. It's way way more serious than your normal Jackie Chan movie. I like this movie and I wouldn't mind seeing him do more movies like this because I get he is older and cant do all the crazy things he used to do. I mean the man is 68. This movie is more showing Jackie acting ablitiy than just his fighting and he did a good job.

2/10

Tonally it’s nothing like Hellboy. Structurally it’s a huge mess with random stuff happening for no reason other than “cool action!” Rushed plot lines from different arcs in the comics smashed together in less than 2 hours. **** this movie.

The Bad Guys loved the characters and they were voiced perfectly, the animation, I was getting some Lupin III vibes mainly from the female chief of police.
