As some of you know, Captain America 3 (Subtitle unknown) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are both scheduled for release on May 6, 2016. Since they are both big blockbuster movies that require a lot of money to recoup their budget, this will likely be a problem, moreso for DC since they have a lot riding on BvS and not as much hype, due to lack of films, and not as much for Marvel as they will be riding on AoU, and Cap 3 is not a lynchpin in the Marvel strategy. It could be considered a 'sacrifice knight to take the queen' move.

My question is, what would it take for Captain America 3 to have higher critical and commercial appeal and acclaim than a Man of Steel sequel that is also a The Dark Knight reboot and heavily features the oft-pondered duel between Batman and Superman. What would Cap 3 need to really whomp Batman v Superman, not just for you, but for the general public.

What say you?

And for kicks, Cap vs Batman fanfilm.

AoU being a huge hit will certainly help. Though Ant-Man might benefit more, depending on how connected to AoU it is.

I don't think it'll be very hard to overcome critically.

A lot depends on the lasting feelings of the GA towards MoS. If, by the time BvS comes up, they have generally settled out to "dislike", that helps a lot. If the early reviews for BvS are terrible, that also helps.

I dont know if this can beat BvS in terms of box office. At least on opening weekend. Avengers vs BvS would be more of a fair fight, but the fact that it is Batman and Superman teaming up on screen for the first time will be huge. I dont even have that much faith in the movie and I didnt like MOS, but I'll be damned if I dont check it out opening weekend

However, I do think Cap 3 will be the better movie

BvS is the one that needs to prove itself to be honest, the prospect of Batman and Superman sharing the screen AND Wonder Woman making an appearance is really exciting, but Marvel has established itself as a consistent provider of entertainment with characters the public have learned to love. DC needs to catch up with that.

Brainwash TV Networks to show nothing but Captain America 3 trailers and TV Spots during all commercial breaks and to destroy all BvS footage that was sent to them.

I honestly think it's completely impossible to beat BvS

1. Be more than just the mindless, unnecessary destruction of Man of Steel
2. Have fewer plot holes than The Dark Knight Rises
3. Have a story line that isn't just a rehashing of the first movie of your trilogy (League of Shadows trying to destroy Gotham, HYDRA trying to bomb the US)
4. Don't introduce and promote your big time primary villain out to be a badass then change him to being a little groveling baby weasel.

Oh, that's how to make it better.

Lol. So basically it's BvS's game to lose? That sounds reasonable.

Borrow from the Civil War storyline and make it a Captain America v Iron Man movie.
I'm pretty sure WB execs will lose it if Marvel announces something like that. :D

Seriously though, the pressure is on DC/WB and not Marvel in this fight. They are the ones in need of a breakout hit, a clear success to launch their movieverse, to put Justice League on the right track as well as its potential spin-offs.

If both films keep their dates (and I still think DC will do the smart thing and move BvS to another spot), even if BvS ends up on top (like it should), I think Cap 3 has the potential to make some significant damage to its BO take. And while Marvel can afford to lose a fair bit money in the process I don't think DC/WB will/should be satisfied with a moderate success this time around. They are throwing everything they have into a single movie, including the two most lucratives character of their roaster. They need a smashing hit. Which they are unlikely to get if Cap 3 gets released on the same date.

I disagree with most of you. Marvel is an established commodity. If Age of Ultron amazes people like a lot of us are expecting, Captain America 3 could be the biggest film of the year. Don't get me wrong, BvS is going to be huge and get a TON of money simply because it's Batman and Superman together. But if it doesn't get great reviews before the national release, it could drop enough for CA3 to sneak by.

Really, it all depends on Zach Snyder. If he screws it up and it gets bad reviews, it's in trouble

I am thinking that even if BvS is as bad as catwoman or batman and robin, every kid, young man and 60's,70's or 80's kid will go to see BvS. I know that Cap 3 will be awesome, the writers will make sure that it is as well as Mr Feige. Even if cap 3 is 1,000 x better than BvS, BvS will make more money at least initially. However, if it is a great movie it will make incredible amounts of muhla. Avengers numbers I am thinking. But my heart is with Cap 3.

How to beat it critically? By being a better movie. Simple.

How to beat it commercially? There is absolutely no chance Captain America 3 will beat BvS in the box office. Even if AoU gives Cap a huge popularity boost, it won't be nearly enough to make more money than the two biggest superheroes in history, combined. And BvS's marketing has also been superb, building much anticipation even two years before release, which adds even more to that aspect. The third Cap movie could be the best CBM in ages and it still wouldn't beat Dawn of Justice commercially.

Commercially, I think it'll be damn near impossible to beat BvS even with all the success Marvel's had. This is arguably the most hyped up CBM of all time, only short to maybe JL.

Criticially, I don't think it'll take much; just them delivering a great film like they did with TWS. I don't have much hopes for BvS critically speaking.

Even with Captain America being my favorite character and franchise, I really don't want CAP 3 to "BEAT" that awesome sounding upcoming DC movie, with the way stupid title. I want them to both be really good movies in 2016. I've always leaned more to Marvel in my reading, but love a DC movie or show when its done right. To bad this competitive movie market is just going to flame on the old dumb "My comic book company is better than your comic book company" thing. But hopefully it keeps both sides on there toes, and keeps the production quality really high.

No chance.

The only way that Cap 3 can beat BvS is critically... There's no way that it makes more money

All moot now...

Cap WON!!!

monetarily....no chance.....quality wise.....great chance lol

Who knows? 5 years ago, did anyone imagine a Captain America film could outgross a Spider-Man film? Because it happened this year.

You are right, I/we shouldn't say definitively anything ....but if we were all betting money....

Nothing is impossible when it comes to box office .
That having been said ,
I am glad these two movies are no longer competing with each other directly .
