Nice list Hordarkfan. Will you be compiling lists for every year since 1982?

Here's my top twenty for that year:

1. E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial
2. Tootsie
3. Gandhi
4. Diner
5. The Thing
6. Blade Runner
7. The World According to Garp
8. Missing
9. Das Boot
10. The Verdict
11. An Officer and a Gentleman
12. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
13. 48 Hours
14. Poltergeist
15. The Dark Crystal
16. Sophie's Choice
17. The Secret of NIMH
18. One from the Heart
19. Annie
20. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid

My guilty pleasure from that year is Grease 2 (some might say Annie also belongs in that bracket).

I also think Tron, Halloween III and Conan the Barbarian all had brilliant concepts but fell short of their potential in terms of execution.

:lmao: You are aware it was 1982 and nothing of that nature had ever been conceived in terms of the complexity of SFX development aren't you ? too say it was revolutionary would be an understatement of the highest level.

The Tron effects are still extraordinary. I was referring to the storytelling, which I found fell a tad short.

See also my relative low-placing for Blade Runner, a film that surpasses absolutely everything in terms of SFX and art direction, and admittedly does contain a very strong, profound story, but is occasionally on the slow side in terms of pacing. Still a classic though.

What a year for movies. Got to go with Wrath of Khan as my #1.

in no particular order

Annie
E.T.
Poltergeist
Gandhi
Blade Runner
The Secret of Nimh
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The Dark Crystal
Koyannisqatsi

Poltergeist
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
The Thing
48 Hrs.

I'm really too lazy to go any further.

1. E.T.
2. Star Trek II
3. The Thing
4. Tootsie
5. First Blood
6. Airplane II
7. The Dark Crystal

Damn, I forgot how amazing 1982 was. I must have seen Wrath of Khan at least 10 times - and Conan, still one of my favorites ! I was a kid back then, but hell movies were good !

I would take Star Trek II and an Officer and a Gentleman. Neither of them are the best of the year but I enjoyed them the most.
