After hearing that Darius Rucker [don't call him Hootie!] has a hit country single, it reminded me of a lot of the music I used to listen to growing up. Two songs of which I loved [and still do love]--

Four Non Blondes--What's Up?

The Cranberries--Zombie

I guess there's no accounting for taste, eh? Toss some in from your memory bank. Just, like the title says, Alt Rock.

Faith No More - Caffeine

Primus - Southbound Pachyderm

I was one of the early Seattle Rock fans, and was into bands like Green River (which spawned Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, with MLB eventually evolving into Pearl Jam) but when it got trendy I ditched it mostly.

But, here's a great song by Mother Love Bone, just because they were the best and most underrated bands of all time.

and because its a great song...here's Temple Of The Dog...from the albvum inspired by and decidated to Mother Love Bones deceased singer Andrew Wood

Caffeine is possibly the best Faith No More song ever, and I like all their stuff.

I also have a feeling someone is going to mention the Spin Doctors soon, and probably that two princes song. That is when I will cry.

Though, I'll probably make someone else cry by saying I used to LOVE the song "king of spain" by Moxy Fruvous.

Edited to add that Heretic wins at life for mentioning Green River and Mother Love Bone....seriously.

If only Andrew Wood had won at life...

People dont understand this unless they were there for it in the beginning, but Mother LOve Bone would have changed the course of music history. They should have been the biggest band on earth. Instead, heroin caused them to be a footnote in Pearl Jam's history.

It's not fun now that you mentioned it first. lol.

God, I love that Temple of the Dog song. So many memories stirred.

Keep in mind, though. Language.

Language? I dont think there are any cuss words on either song I posted links to.

There weren't. It was a preemptive strike, is all.

No links.

Make it simple: If you have to ask "Should I post this?" , then the answer is "No, you shouldn't".

I think everybody knows this song

Freshman- the Verve Pipe
Follow You Down- Gin Blossoms
Hey Jealousy- Gin Blossoms
Hook- Blues Traveler  one of my fave songs ever
If You Could Only See- Tonic

Paranoid Android, wish I could post the vid, but it has animated tittays. I can remember exactly what was going on in my life when that song was released.

On the subject of 90's music, why did it all go down hill after 1996? The early 90's had all these great bands, then 96 rolled around and everything started to suck. Nu-metal/rap rock was the dominating form of rock. Puffy and Master P ruined rap, country went pop, and pop blew up with the spice girls and hanson

possum kingdom is the reason I stopped listening to the radio. I live in Dallas, and the Toadies were a local band. Because they made it big, the local radio stations felt the need to play that song to death. Honest to god that song was always playing on one to the three rock stations that existed at the time. the day I stopped listening to the radio, that song was on three stations at the same time.

Seriously. 1996 was like the last great year for music it all went downhill after that. Here's some songs that really bring me back to that time:

Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun

Smashing Pumpkins-1979

This totally started my love of the Cake band. [I've loved cake since I was a kid, just look at my belly.]

I've had that in my head for ages. And it's been forever since I heard it.

That reminds me of something that happened back when I was living in Hampton Roads. FM99 was playing something sucky, so I switched over to 96x, and they were playing 'Intergalactic', by the Beastie Boys. I liked the song, so I listened. It ended, but I waited to see what the next song was. It was 'Intergalactic' again. Next song? Same thing. Over. And over. They let this go for like, four hours. Then, finally, the DJ came on, and said "There, we've honored all requests for that song. Now we're never going to play it again."
