No horror movie in recent years has scared me more than the basement scene.

Great use of lighting there. First the old man looks harmless and due to the light falling on his face from above he suddenly looks creepy as ****. With that and the way it's built up, it isn't that hard to imagine the harmless old man as a serial killer. Seriously, it would shame Hitchcock. Fincher did a fantstic job on this movie.

Agreed. When the old man's reflection as he stepped back into view, when Gyllenhaal was at the front door trying to escape was another highlight of the scene.

It's by far the best movie of the year IMO.
