When did it get better, and do I need to watch the previous episodes?

I read that Heroes has started to get good again,
I stopped watching around the time Ando was "stabbed"
So do I need to watch all that I have missed, or can I just start up from after that storyline ended?

Although the rest of the volume is not good at all, go ahead and watch the rest of the episodes otherwise you'll be a bit lost about certain plot points in Fugitives.

Yeah, it doesn't really improve before Villains ends, but it may be beneficial to know everything else that happened there before you start the Fugitives volume. Which, I'd say has been pretty good from the beginning but got even better around, maybe halfway?

When Peter started being more assertive around the second episode of this Volume was when this started getting better with me. I'm just disappointed that it took a bastardization of his powers and him being Jaded Pete™ for it to happen. The latter I can live with, the former just irks me to no end. Unless it's ultimately revealed that his powers change moreso with his emotional state than we are currently led to believe (despite whatever hints to that fact we've received).

I watched till episode 5 I think.
How many episodes is "Villains"?

How many one hour episodes do I need to sit through until I get to the next chapter?

Villains is 13 episodes if I remember correctly. So you'd have 96 left if you indeed stopped at 5. (Or at least it'd feel like that many with how... horribad Villains got towards the end)

I think to catch up with where it's at now watch from "Shades of Gray" onwards. That should be enough.

just start with episode 1 of fugitives and fill in the blanks as you go along.
