Sequels When should we expect the first BIG news?

It's been almost a month since Spidey 3's release. There should be some kind of big announcement by the end of summer.

To me the big news is if Sam, Tobey and Kirsten come back. So far we know that there will be one and it is scheduled for 2009, but either way will likely be pushed back to 2010, with Sony announcing that possibility as well. Also, several producers have name dropped Lizard as a definate and Kraven as a maybe.

So the big confirmation is whether the great cast and crew that made the first three special will come back for one more?

I'd say expect to hear it by the end of this year. When though...I don't know.

I wouldn't be shocked if the franchise lingers without much solid news for a few years like the Hulk did after 2003. With so many pieces up in the air, it might be awhile before any real decisions are made.

They also don't want another "Batman & Robin" type of movie on their hands that might bury the franchise at 4. I'm sure Sony would like Raimi, Tobey, Kirsten to come back but they have all sounded ambiguous. I doubt they will but pushed to make a quick decision.
If the franchise must select a new director or leading man, which is always a risky proposition, that will also take quite a bit of time and thought. I wouldn't be totally shocked if we don't get another Spidey movie until 2012.

I think we'll hear something by the end of the year ... And that news is going to be about whether the original cast and crew is coming back.

In fact, I think that Spider-Man 4's release date depends on whether the same people are coming back. If they are, I expect a 2009 release. If a new gang has to come in, then I think we'll have to wait until 2010.

i think we will get as the biggest news soon is something like a confirmation of a contract for the actors and sam. after that bits and pieces will be released in interviews and such

I know that Eddie Brock and both the Stacys contracts all stipulate more films but I do remember Tobey saying that the Spidey Story "feels like a trilogy" for him.

I think around the time the DVD is released we´ll get some news on the sequel, it will probably be related to Sam coming back or not.

I'd guess another two years from now on the release, but then again if Sam goes off to work another film. I expect the wait to be longer.

Well, if Dreamworks can announce that there will only be 2 more Shrek films left with Shrek the Third just having been released to theaters, then Sony could announce the confirmation of SM4 and the state of the actors/director by the end of July. I for one think everyone will be back; who can turn down millionns upon millions upon millions of dollars?

There is no need to rush this guys... unless you can sign up this group for three more films (which we all know ISN'T happening) there is no need to go for an 09 (then 012 013 release of the sequels) like POTC or the Matrix... my best hope is that they bring in a new director and core cast for a 2010/2011 release... with sequels in 2013/14 and 2015/2016
