Although TOS is the original and great campy fun, I'm inclined to say TNG is the best for overall quality. Nevertheless, I hear many people saying DS9 got really good once the Dominion War started. Thoughts?

There is already a startrek thread but... Deep Space 9. To be honest, most of the main next generation characters were really boring. Can we honestly say Riker with his trombone, doctor crusher, that blind black fellow or that telephathic lady in gym gear were as interesting as even the most side characters of Deep Space 9? I think thats the biggest problem with the next generation. Even Picard is very boring. The story in Deep Space 9 felt very epic as well and was just so outside the box compared to the other very self-contained episodes of TOS/TNG/V. Until Battlestar Galatica (which is the same dude) I think Deep Space 9 was the best sci-fi show on tv, really wonderful stuff. Also, Cheif O'Brien owns. I'm glad he became a main character. He's such a humble fellow. And about the only person the TNG I actually wanted to know more about. Worf, not so much. They kinda just dragged him into it to get more viewers. He wasn't bad though, I just felt the show didn't really need him.

Ya can't beat the originals:

But Sisko and crew came very damned close.

It wasn't really until the movies that I got a sense of comradery and friendship from TOS crew.
Particularly with the "Undisovered Country" which was a wonderful sendoff.

After watching Enterprise, Voyager and TNG and based on my memories of TOS, so far my fav show is Voyager followed by Enterprise.

I never really understood the hate that Enterprise got.

If I had to rank them though, I'd have to go with DS9, Enterprise, Voyager, TNG and TOS. The degrees separating the last 3 are slight.

TNG, TOS, and then Enterprise.
I like them for different reasons, so ranking them is difficult, as I enjoy them equally.

In descending order of quality:

Deep Space Nine
The Next Generation
The Original Series
Enterprise
Star ****: The **** that **** the ***** (the porno version only available in parts of Russia)
Voyager

I was never a 'trekkie', not even remotely, ok, maybe remotely, as I did keep a bunch of episodes from the original series on tape for years and years.
But, I've not seen any of the series in full, so i can't judge what was best to my tastes.

I have seen maybe 20 eps of TOS... I watched a lot of TNG when it first came on the telly, but not much since... watched random eps of Voyager here and there as my nephew was into it when he was wee... saw all of s3 and 4 of enterprise...and i only caught ds9 a couple of times...So I guess my answer is TOS, because when i sit down to watch an absolute classic ep of TOS, with it's particular characters/actors, the music, the sound effects, it's overall atmosphere in other words, well that is my best time watching Star Trek, and by classic eps i mean... The Corbomite Manuever, A Piece of the action, this Side of Paradise, that one where the they go back into the past and pick up that airforce pilot, Amok Time, the Nazi planet one,...damn I need to get these on dvd at some point, cause i missed some classics, and i need to replace my tapes cause only a couple of them are still playable.

I like all of them,But my top 2 are DS9&Enterprise!!

A big part of that is TOS' focus on Kirk/Spock/McCoy rather than an ensemble cast that later Trek's used, I don't really see it as a weakness but just a different approach.

TNG - This is the show I crew up with and got me started watching Star Trek

TOS - Campy fun

DS9 - It was ok but it started poorly and never managed to make up ground

Enterprise

Voyager - Dead last, the only series in the franchise that had episodes so bad that I turned off the tv rather than watch them.

Did you see Season 3 and beyond for DS9? Also, Dominion war was amazing.

After Season 3 Deep Space 9 is pretty much a diffrent show.
It still uses plot elements like the worm hole, and Odo's origin. Which ends up being probably the most important plotline of ths show.

The Next Generation. Except the first season of it, dear god. I actually don't really enjoy any of the series besides TNG (although I love the new movie), but TNG is one of my favourite shows.

In order:

TOS - Too awesome a show. The character dynamics are by far the best in the franchise. Kirk, Spock and McCoy had great chemistry, with good old Scotty thrown in for good measure (the others... whatever lol). But this show was just fun on every level IMO.

TNG - Great show, but it lacked what TOS had. Which, for me, was flawed characters. The main crew seemed too perfect. BUT, it was a superb show, with the peak being Best Of Both Worlds. That was possibly one of the finest 2 parters in television.

DS9 - It's taken me a LONG time to like this show. It's only been the least year or so, when re watching it, that I actually started to enjoy it. For me though, it got better when Worf joined the crew. Not all down to Worf, but the writers pulling there fingers out. The dominion was arc was a very interesting concept and for the most part was pulled off very well. But that final episode... shame. Overall, very good.

ENT - This series didn't start going until season 3. Really, should have waited a few years until people got over VOY. Also, removing 'Star Trek' from the first seasons title sequence and that bloody 'Pop/Rock' theme... it was the best looking title sequence in Trek, ruined by the music.

VOY - Crap. Pure crap. I felt no chemisrty between the characters. The only bright spot was Robert Picardo. It's such a shame his character was on such a poor show. He was the highlight... though skinpy Seven made things a little better too ;-). But really, I only watched this series out of Trek loyalty. And unlike DS9, I have developed no love for it.

Yea Voyager was kinda "bro" trek. Not quite bro level as the new hip movie but more the kind of thing you can watch by switching your brain off. "Distant Origin" though (the one about the alien who argues they evolved from dinosaurs on earth and has to shut up in order to save Voyager) is a pretty fantastic episode though. It's basically an adaptation of Galileo focusing on the aliens rather than Voyager. Maybe thats why it's good? :o

1. TNG
2. DS9
3. Enterprise
4. TOS
5. Voyager

Voyager was my favorite, followed by TNG.

Never watched Enterprise, and my memories of TOS are hazy at best.

DS9, I was only a child when it started, but I remember disliking it intensely for no reason that I can recall. I guess I never really gave it a fair shot

I actually really liked the episode where Tom goes past the warp limit.
